SOTU Tonight 9PM

...be there or be square! Afterward, I hope you'll send a message and voice your opinion on the State of the Union to your Congressman/woman and Senator. Remember, folks, they work for us. If, God forbid, you're unsure of who your representatives are on Capitol Hill, check out Congress.org . It's a great site for reference (voting records, legislation, etc.) and provides an easy means to connect directly with your elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels. Our leaders serve our country best when they know exactly where the public stands on the issues, and when they know the public is watching them. Regardless of what some politicians may believe, they serve at the pleasure of their constituents. Let's remind them occasionally!

Pardonnez-moi ?!

Do you think that the revelation of our domestic survelliance program after 9-11-01 was shocking? No other civilized country would do such a thing! Right? Well, courtesy of Foreign Policy online, let's educate ourselves a bit about how the French fight terror , shall we? And, when you're finished reading about the French, do yourself a favor and read about David's friend Goliath . Great articles!

Hollywood Idiocy (I know, that's redundant)

From ET Online : "Many stars were taken aback by the news of the journalists' injuries. 'We need journalists to be that close to the war,' 'Commander in Chief' star GEENA DAVIS told ET. 'It's obviously a personal choice for him but I think there are people like him who want to get the real story and they are willing to put themselves in harm's way -- that's sort of been their code of ethics for a long time, and it kills you to hear something like that. But how grateful do we have to be that there are people willing to risk their lives.' 'Lost' star JOSH HOLLOWAY is grateful for the risks the journalists take to cover the war. 'To put yourself in harm's way like that to put the truth out there so things can be done about it is extremely honorable,' he said. 'Journalists have been killed -- I just want them to come home.' " Good God! JOURNALISTS have been killed?! Well that's it then! Let's bring all

More Silliness

I've been trying to stay focused all day on getting my finals for Math and IT class ready to turn in on Sunday night; however, I've noticed a distinct drop-off in motivation at this late hour. Saturday night, I'm working on finals all day and find myself unmotivated at 1:26am on Sunday morning... imagine that! ;o) So, I thought I'd share some more silliness from Jay Barnes , the creator of the original " Rock, Paper, Saddam! " It's not flash-animated yet but it's still pretty entertaining! Enjoy " The Painting !"

Arrogance and Loathing in Orlando

As you may have noticed, I've been away for a bit. I am finally home again from a week-long conference in Orlando, Florida. This conference is always packed with folks from all over the globe and is quite often a real blast to attend. This is the first time I've attended since the events of 9-11-01 and the beginnings of our war against Islamo-fascism. Believe it or not, it hadn't even occurred to me that there would be foreign arrogance running amok at the conference. Every evening of this conference was an exercise in self-control for me as I was subjected to the nonsense of my fellow Americans apologizing for our alleged "bad reputation" around the world to the Germans, English, Canadians, French, and yes (believe it or not) Australians who in attendance. Granted, these were not formal apologies; they were simply casual conversations had at dinner, during breaks, and at the clubs; however, they were very real and very Liberally dispensed (pardon the pun). I made

Putting it in perspective, as usual

Leave it to our friend Daveed Gartenstein-Ross to put the recent election of Hamas to power in the Palestinian Authority in proper perspective. Outside of my glib take on recent events there, the next best insight is in his commentary on the Counter-Terrorism Blog .

How many...

** WARNING: If you are a Liberal lunkhead, you should skip this post and proceed to the Daily Kos. The following post is politically insensitive and may cause gasping and uncontrollable Liberal righteous anger. ** Remember the old Polish/Irish jokes from the mid- to late-70s? How many Pollocks does it take to screw in a light bulb?... One to hold the bulb and two to turn the ladder! The recent election in the Palestinian Authority made me think of this one: How many Palestinians in the Palestinian Authority does it take to end the peace process?... 60% of them! No, there will be no uproarious laughter at either joke. They are both pathetic, aren't they? Call me psychic but it was bound to happen sooner rather than later that they would cut their own throats and end the peace process. I suppose that's the thanks that Sharon and his followers get for being human beings with an interest in living peaceably with the Palestinians. For whatever reason, the Palestinians have chosen to

Olive Branch? or a Rose?

Our friend Daveed Gartenstein-Ross has written an excellent piece on Osama Bin Laden's "olive branch" as presented in the audio tape released this week. Obviously Bin Laden is the only idiot on the planet who believes that by using the Left's anti-war rhetoric and their outdated pathetic playbook, he might actually "win" his war against the Infidels here in the States. As an Infidel, I'd like for him to continue his strategy of parrotting the idiot Leftists here in the States. It's a sure fire way to fire up the Right in this country who are currently the majority. Keep up the good work, idiots. The Left and Bin Laden might show up on "The Bachelor" one of these days if this love-fest continues. I wonder if we'll recognize Nancy Pelosi in a burqua...

Personal Notes

My apologies for being missing in action so often these past few weeks. Life. What a concept! I feel I've missed many opportunities for timely remarks and so I'll leave past events to the serious writers for commentary. However, I would like to catch up on a few personal bits of business... Fair winds and following seas to a dear friend of this blog as he heads out for adventures on the high seas. The USS Ronald Reagan steamed out of San Diego this month for its regular six-month deployment. In an LA Times story about the send-off, Tony Perry gave us just a little glimpse into the hearts of our patriots of days past: "Frank Leech, 56, an Army veteran of Vietnam, stood on the shore at Shelter Island, waving his American flag. He knows none of the sailors, but he had to be there. 'I want them to know that someone cares,' he said quietly as the Reagan moved slowly toward the open sea." God bless you, Frank Leech, and all the other men and women who served our co

Need a chuckle?

I couldn't resist posting this -- obviously this is less than profound but I find my amusement where I can these days! Evidently the creator of this page is a Conservative! Enjoy!!

The Left -- Force Multipliers (thanks, Russ!)

Force Multipliers Wikipedia: force multiplier -- a military term referring to a factor that dramatically increases (hence multiplies) the combat-effectiveness of a given military force. In Iraq an IED explodes, An American soldier dies, But that blast will grow as the media blow It up before our eyes. And trumpet to the watching world, These fifth column falsifiers, Like sheep they bleat we face defeat, Our foe’s force multipliers. Osama and his minions know, In combat they can’t beat us; So they hope and pray will come a day, Our own media will defeat us. Ignoring all the good we’ve done, Liberals focus on the gore, On losses mounting and body counting, To prove we’ve lost this war. They disgraced us once in Vietnam, So now these leftists feel, That again they’ll win with media spin, And make America kneel. But defeatists aren’t the only ones, Learned lessons from the past; Back then we swore we’d lose no more, This time we’re standing fast. The Internet’s exposed them, As elitist me

Dentist in Afghanistan

I know there are likely to be weightier matters to blog about this evening but I've just returned from a fascinating talk given by a Lexington dentist on her trip to Afghanistan and it's fresh on my mind. Teresa Dawahare Lyon is a dentist who lives in Lexington. As part of a mission to Afghanistan, Teresa provided badly needed dental services (and female role-modeling) to the people of Kabul, Afghanistan recently. She gave a very interesting talk about the people and the situation there and presented us with some terrific slides of her trip. The thing that struck me most about the pictures she presented is that, for the first time ever, she told us the ages of the people in the pictures. Folks, you would not believe how YOUNG some of these Afghanis are that look like they're 70ish! The average life expectancy of an Afghani male is 45 years. The Afghani men I've been seeing in pictures all over magazines, newpapers, the internet, and elsewhere that I had previously assum
