It explains more about President Trump's reference to "Crowdstrike" in the transcript of his call to the Ukrainian president. Best of all, the article explains why it spurred the Democrats to run screaming down Impeachment Road with their hair on fire. Enjoy!
It's been a while since I abandoned my blog -- I think 9 years or more now. I was enjoying being able to interact on social media; however, I realized that the interaction on Bookface was more futile than informative and enjoyable. I took my profile down and will not be looking back. I am back to blogging again where I can share the items I find of interest without all the political/emotional blowback.

If you are new to ConservaChick, welcome to this Kentucky girl's blog! Please wipe your feet on the mat and open your mind before entering. For the most part, you are all welcome here provided you (a) have a sense of humor, (b) are open-minded, and (c) treat others with kindness.

Trigger Warning: I dislike the term "politically correct" because its sole purpose is to infringe on your First Amendment right to freedom of speech; it endeavors to control your thoughts and your ability to express yourself freely. I value polite yet inquisitive and sometimes challenging conversations. I will likely post a cartoon or express an opinion which you may deem "politically incorrect." If this triggers you then, in the words of a famous literary cad, "Frankly, Scarlet..."

I have noticed a lot of others who have picked up on my name and done their own thing with it. That's cool, however, it must be said that THIS particular Conservachick has been a registered Republican since 1981. I once had a subscription to Mother Jones; I was once a member of PETA; and I am currently a minister in the Universal Life Church with a doctorate in Divinity. I'm one who leans toward Liberty (note the capital "L"). There are social issues that leave me feeling a bit unhappy with the Grand Old Party but for the most part, my loyalties belong to our representative republic based on the inalienable rights granted to us by our Creator. I am a free-thinker who values challenges, intellect, kindness, humor, and your right to form your own opinions... hoping that you base them on research and experience.

In this blog you will read about those things as well as all of the things that we Conservatives do right -- pun intended!

Welcome to Conservachick!... and if you're coming "home" to roost with me again, Welcome back!!
Do you feel grateful that you're being protected from upper case streets signs?

This dictatorial mandate comes from the Federal Highway Administration, and applies to every community in America, not just New York City.

But don't blame this outrage on the busy-body Democrats. This isn't an Obama directive. The rule was actually promulgated back in 2003 -- during the Bush Administration.

Regardless of which party rules, very little is done to stop unfunded mandates or bureaucratic law-making. The problem is, Republicans have been promising to get rid of unfunded mandates since their so-called "Contract With America" way back in 1994!

The GOP controlled Congress and the White House for 6 years, but did exactly nothing to honor their promise.

This shows why we must remain committed to principles, not parties or politicians.

Now, here is what can be done about unfunded mandates, and you'll only read these next two ideas HERE, in the Downsizer-Dispatch.

First, New York City could tell the feds to, "Go to hell." City officials swore an oath to the Constitution too. They've read the highest law in the land. They know this is wrong.

That would be called, "nullification." To help promote this idea, Downsize DC President Jim Babka will be speaking at the Nullify Now! Conference in Orlando on October 10. There will also be two other opportunities to see (and meet) him this weekend. You can see the details here.

Second, if a single sitting GOP member of Congress was serious about fixing unfunded mandates imposed by un-elected bureaucrats, then he or she could sponsor DownsizeDC.org's Write the Laws Act.

There are candidates who've pledged to do this, and you can read their names here.

But no incumbent member of Congress has yet stepped forward to introduce this powerful bill which would restore ALL legislative power to the House and Senate, and deny any legislative power to the Executive Branch, just as the Founders intended.

The Republicans tell us they believe in small government and the Constitution, but if that were really true they would introduce this bill.

Allowing bureaucrats to issue dictates that have the force of law amounts to legislation without representation. How un-Constitutional is that? How un-American? How hypocritical, especially for GOP members?

Please send a letter demanding that your representatives introduce and support the Write the Laws Act.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

The FHWA is requiring street signs nationwide be replaced so that, for example, MAIN ST becomes Main St. Fonts must also be standardized. In just
100 days, you will be paying higher taxes than you have in over a
decade. (http://www.atr.org/update-days-untilbr-largest-tax-hikes-a5418)What
does this mean for you, for your family, for your small business?
If you pay taxes, your taxes are going up. Even the lowest tax rate
will rise from 10 to 15 percent.Everybody's tax rate is going up, from
the kid with a lemonade stand clear up to Warren Buffett
(http://www.atr.org/update-days-untilbr-largest-tax-hikes-a5418).
If you have a small business, the rate at which a majority of small
business profits are taxed will rise from 35 to 40 percent. If you're
one out of four working Americans who gets his paycheck from a small
employer, this might lead to a pink slip for you.
If you have a family, you will see the return of the marriage penalty
(a tax bonus for shacking up instead of getting hitched) and the child
tax credit cut in half to $500.
If you're an investor, you can count on the stock market taking a hit
as the capital gains tax rises from 15 to 20 percent and the dividend
tax spikes from 15 to 40 percent.
If you plan on dying at some point in your life, you can look forward
to the return of the death tax. It's gone for the rest of the year,
but in January it comes back with a 55 percent top rate.
None of this includes the two dozen new or higher taxes in Obamacare
(http://www.atr.org/obamacare-taxes-final-tab-a4744). Nor does it
factor in the hundreds of tax hikes which Congressional Democrats have
already let through, and which you won't find out about until you sit
down to do your taxes next Spring.
ATR needs your help to get the word out. Tell your friends, family,
and neighbors about these tax hikes. We've listed them all for you in
plain English. Feel free to print them out and distribute them, too
(http://www.atr.org/update-days-untilbr-largest-tax-hikes-a5418).
America needs to know that we'll all face the largest tax hikes in
history in just 100 days.
Onward,
Grover Norquist
President
Americans for Tax Reform

To no longer receive email from us go here:
http://www.congressweb.com/t/u/?QBZWQRIXQH

--
Sent from Gmail for mobile | mobile.google.com

"The smallest minority on earth is the individual. It took a while for me to get my thoughts together on this new media fascination with Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) thanks to his statement on the "Ground Zero mosque" -- ha! Take that, AP! -- controversy. I'm lazy this evening and, instead of approaching it again in a different fashion for readers of this blog, I thought I'd simply link you to it on WLKY's Local Voices instead. Forgive me?

From "Kook" to "Reasonable Conservative" with just one statement?Dawn Shulerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14450143202469268446noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8596852.post-68838916609946415832010-08-24T09:15:00.001-04:002010-08-24T09:15:09.286-04:00Same as the Old Boss...

Earmarks were used to bribe Republicans to support the prescription drug benefit and TARP. Earmarks were used to bribe Democrats to support Obamacare. Earmarks are a drug and the GOP, to absolve itself of its own sins, publicly declared that House Republicans would give up the very corrupting practice.

But it was all for show, or so it seems. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) declares earmarks will be back in full swing once the GOP takes back Congress.

With Eric Cantor (R-VA) already talking about a rollback of the Republican ban on earmarks if they reclaim majority status, limited government activists can be sure that our message has NOT gotten through to the establishment GOP in DC. This is sad. It reminds me a lot of what happened in '94 when the Contract With America helped sweep the GOP back into power. Dick Armey commented that term limits were no longer necessary as the GOP was back in power. Nice, eh?

Apparently, the GOP in DC continues to miss the point of the rallies and protests. When Tea Parties were started, average Americans had finally reached the overflow point -- federal government had overstepped its bounds TOO many times with TOO much of our money. We began searching for a deeper understanding of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. WE re-learned our American history and civics. WE found ourselves enlightened and appreciative of the intelligence, sacrifice, and honor of our founders. Unfortunately, now WE seem to be the only ones who get it.

Eric Erickson's piece, "Meet the New Boss," is dead on. It's depressing but he's definitely called it like a lot of us see it. It's apparently time to figure out a new game plan, folks, because Cantor and others on The Hill don't get it. Handing the Dems a pink slip is only a start... they all need to come home and we need to replace them with patriots who put the Constitution first.

It's a daunting task and one that makes me wonder if We the People have finally let They the Congress get so far out of control that we will never be able to rein them back in to their Constitutional boundaries.

Rena Bernardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10231776035703054588noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8596852.post-24493061498797359002010-08-23T21:16:00.003-04:002010-08-25T21:23:25.940-04:00Brilliantly funny!
If you're like me, you've probably gotten sucked into the Facebook thing. I don't mean the Farmville, Farkle, Mob Wars side of Facebook; I mean the status updates and random things that are shared by your friends. It's a constant source of entertainment for me. It containing the text of an article by a journalist named Charley Reese numerous times from different folks. Charley wrote for the Orlando Sentinel for thirty years and retired in 2001. I understand why I'm seeing it more frequently lately; however, I hope the folks forwarding it have given serious thought to it. I fear the frivolous thoughts that run something like, "Yeah! Obama, Pelosi, and Reid suck!" Unconstructive, unenlightened, and destined to fail, again. I hope the line of thought is as serious and constructive as, "How can I be a part of stopping this insanity?"

The problem stated clearly in Charley's article is that WE the People are the problem when we choose to send those 545 people back to Congress to continue doing what they've always done. While the 545 who blame vague entities like "the economy" and "politics" keep playing that game, we keep putting them back in office to continue the game. Serious people understand that this must stop. I don't care what side of the aisle you're on, if you vote for someone who plays these games, you're as guilty as they are.

From what I can tell, this article has been published several times under varying titles and with varying text. According to Snopes.com, this version was published in 1985.

The 545 People Responsible For All Of America's Woes

By Charley Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 235 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Don't you see how the con game is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of Tip O'Neill, who stood up and criticized Ronald Reagan for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes.

O'Neill is the speaker of the House. He is the leader of the majority party. He and his fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 235 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it's because they want them in Lebanon.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.

This article was first published by the Orlando Sentinel Star newspaper
Rena Bernardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10231776035703054588noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8596852.post-21852928136160001422010-08-18T12:22:00.002-04:002010-08-25T21:37:06.757-04:00Why Does Hollywood Hate 'To Save a Life'?
I haven't seen this movie yet but it's now on the "must see" list.

Why Does Hollywood Hate 'To Save a Life'?

A highly successful faith-based film about teen suicide comes under attack.
Could its Christian message be a stumbling block for critics?

Rena Bernardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10231776035703054588noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8596852.post-15857368276670492782010-08-17T11:19:00.000-04:002010-08-17T11:19:12.284-04:00The stunning decline of Barack Obama: 10 key reasons why the Obama presidency is in meltdownTerrific article from Mr. Gardiner at the Telegraph.
