Freedom's Watch

I was contacted recently via email in a blogger outreach program run by Vigilant Freedom regarding the new ad campaign being launched by Freedom's Watch in an effort to help the average American understand what victory means and why it's important. I'd like to share with you part of that email message: Today, those of us who believe we must win the war on terror have an extraordinary opportunity. Freedom’s Watch has released several moving and emotional commercials to major television and radio outlets from veterans and their families - people who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Moveon.org will talk a lot about quitting and giving up in Iraq. But what they won’t discuss – and in truth, what they just don’t care about – is the overwhelming cost of U.S. and Iraqi lives and security if we give up too soon and lose this war. I heard one of the ads airing on a local talk radio station this afternoon and saw that same ad on television this evening. That ad was thought-provok...

Surge, surge, surge, surge is the word...

I have been waaaaay behind on posting the good news from the battlefield lately. CENTCOM has kept up with all the news and continues to send it my way though. The news according to the facts I'm getting has been overwhelmingly good ever since the actual surge date hit! Heck, it's actually been good enough to warrant notice even from the truth-dodgers (read "Lefties") in this country. Shocking, isn't it? ;-) Big congratulations are in order for our troops and the multi-national forces (MNF) in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as for the good people of Iraq and Afghanistan who are helping to take their freedom back from terrorists. I don't know about you all but I certainly haven't seen much (if any) of this news broadcast in the mainstream media... so, allow me to send some of it your way now! I know you'll enjoy hearing about these successes in our current surge strategy on the Iraqi front... CITIZEN SACRIFICES LIFE TO THWART SUICIDE BOMBER Release Date: ...

"Must See" YouTube TV!

I suppose the whole Jello Wars thing is getting old to those of you who one day expect me to get back to meaningful political commentary. *sigh* Guess what? I'm about to disappoint you on the political front right now... ;-) One of my highly creative friends, Adam, used video footage of our Jello Wars event back on 7-7-07 to create YouTube commercial spots for The Alexander Group . These are "must see" spots for anyone curious about the "action" on the battlefield that day! (Naturally, this geekgirl's favorite is the Star Wars-esque second clip). Enjoy!!

Murtha owes US Marines an apology!

From " Innocent at Haditha " by Ben Johnson of FrontPage Magazine : [...] Last May, John Murtha held a press conference accusing our soldiers of slaughtering 24 Iraqis – including women and children – in the town of Haditha in late November 2005. He guaranteed an investigation would determine “[o]ur troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” His words ricocheted around the Arab world, as Al Jazeera dutifully quoted him . This “pressure,” Murtha said, could be ended by bringing troops home. The government eventually charged four men with “unpremeditated murder.” On August 9th, the military dismissed all charges against one of the remaining three Marines accused of murder. [Note: actually against TWO of the three Marines] Indeed, Lt. Gen. James Mattis went further than finding Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt not guilty; he called the 22-year-old “innocent.” He concluded his statement by noting Sharratt “has always remaine...

Jello Wars 2007!

At 17:00 EDT on 07 JUL 2007, a gelatinous battle was fought on a private battlefield in Oldham County, Kentucky. The armies comprised mostly peaceful people brought together in battle by their curiosity and the need for a good challenge: The challenge? Why, to build and field effective weaponry for flinging jello, of course! [Note: I use the word jello throughout this post because, in my humble opinion, it's like kleenex. No one ever really says "gelatin" just as no one ever really says "facial tissue." The ammunition for Jello Wars was made up from both the Jell-O brand gelatin and a generic bulk gelatin with food coloring added.] As far as I know, this was the first war of its kind. Online research indicates that the only event ever labeled a "Jello War" was a jello-eating competition. The Jello War on 7-7-07 in Oldham County did not involve any intentional consumption of jello; however, I personally got a mouthful of the stuff courtesy of the Green ...

Happy Belated Independence Day

I've been greatly distracted lately by other endeavors -- one of which I'll write about in the next post -- and let my favorite holiday slip by without wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable day in remembrance of our Independence. Even though I didn't post my thoughts about it on ConservaChick, the nuances of the day did not slip past me. As I lobbed a serve over the volleyball net at my relatives, a question crossed my mind: When did Americans begin to villify the wealthy in this country? After all, the founding fathers were all quite wealthy and risked everything to break with Mother England. Had they not been brave and willing to finance our break from the monarchy, we would certainly not be celebrating our independence every year. The wealthy in this country often do great things for others and it goes unnoticed and unappreciated. It would be nice if more Americans would recognize that and be more appreciative of the blessin...

Vote for Springfield, Kentucky!

If you're a fan of " The Simpsons " television show, you will want to bring the hometown premiere of the movie version of the show to Springfield, Kentucky. Let's get those votes in pronto as the contest ends at midnight (PDT) on Monday! Good luck, Springfield, Kentucky!

Time of Death: June 28, 2007 11:04am

I must admit to complete surprise today when I heard that the cloture vote ended in favor of a stake through the heart of the wretched amnesty bill. With a vote of 46-53 , the Senate pronounced the zombie amnesty bill that wouldn't die DEAD (for now). Those of us who were very much against this bad piece of legislation will rest a bit easier tonight knowing our voices were finally heard. Evidently, Mitch either miraculously regained his ability to hear or one of his constituents sent him a hearing aid because his Nay vote today was a pleasant surprise! Or, more realistically, could it be that he suddenly remembered he would need us to gain re-election in 2008? Whatever the reason, I'm grateful that we were heard by Senator McConnell. I'm extremely pleased that he has remembered for whom he actually works... for his constituency, not for the Chamber of Commerce and certainly not for the President. Thank you, Mitch. Nice to have you back! Again, I must thank Senator Bunning ...

A tiny bit of cyber-housekeeping... please pardon the dust!

Unless you are using the www.conservachick.com address for ConservaChick, please be sure to update your blogrolls and/or bookmarks! Over a year ago, I acquired the www.conservachick.com domain and have primarily used that to point folks to ConservaChick. So, if you blogrolled or bookmarked this blog using that address, you're golden and you should feel free to disregard the rest of this post. For those of you who blogrolled or bookmarked ConservaChick eons ago, you probably used the original blogspot address (http://swfwithattitude.blogspot.com). I recently updated the blogspot address to better reflect the actual name of the blog. As a result, some of the older links may fail unless you update your bookmarks and/or blogrolls to point to: http://theconservachick.blogspot.com OR http://www.conservachick.com Thanks and my apologies for any inconvenience!

Secure Borders Now

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) has created an online petition to make it easy for those of us who do NOT support amnesty of any kind and want secure borders to have our voices heard in this debate. The petition is meant to encourage Senators to say NO to the sham immigration reform legislation. The wording is clear and concise: "Members of the United State Senate, I am one of the millions of Americans who believes our first priority as a nation should be to secure our borders by enforcing existing laws. Amnesty is not the solution. I urge you to vote against the immigration reform bill currently being considered in the Senate and to oppose any future effort that undermines our national security or grants amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants." Add your name to the petition at SecureBordersNow.com . At this point, over 57,000 Americans have signed the petition. Take a look at the map of where the signatur...

Shame on McConnell! Kudos to Bunning!

I have done my part. I've called; I've faxed; and I've emailed. Will I continue to do so? I really don't know at this point. There's nothing more a constituent can do to try to have his/her voice heard on an issue other than simply doing the same thing over and over again hoping for a different outcome next time. Isn't that the definition of insanity?! National security is one of the biggest and most important issues to this Conservative. Apparently, it is not important to many Republican Senators. Today, Senator Mitch McConnell and other Republicans officially made it clear that they no longer care about this nation's security. Shame on you, Mitch! As I wrote in the fax I sent to you today, President Bush is NOT up for re-election in 2008 but YOU ARE. Not only will I no longer be able to support your campaign with either my time or my vote, I will be very vocally in favor of voting you out for a more security-minded replacement (regardless of party affilia...

What the heck can I do? Get busy!

I've been ranting and gnashing my teeth a lot lately over this stupid amnesty... errrr, uh, excuse me... "immigration reform" effort in Congress recently. Now, partly thanks to Kentucky's own Senator McConnell, this idiocy is being resurrected for yet more compromises and more votes. I stay informed as an activist as well as a blogger on this particular issue. It's time to share some inside "activist" scoop with you... For anyone who watches the news, reads the paper, reads the blogs, and wonders how he/she can make a difference in this current debate, here's the scoop from Roy Beck at NumbersUSA on everything you need to know and need to do to make your voice heard by Congress above the fray. Voting on whether to bring the Kennedy/Bush Comprehensive Amnesty bill back to the floor of the Senate could begin as early as tomorrow (Wednesday). And if that wins, a cloture vote could occur Friday. All of us must tell our Senators that any YES vote on any ...

The Terrorism Awareness Project

You may know that David Horowitz is the former radical Leftist of the 60s who opened his mind to intellectual honesty and made a change for the better in his worldview. FrontPage Magazine is probably his best known online presence and it's where much of his work is done challenging the closed-minded collective at work in this country's academic establishment. Horowitz makes a difference and is keeping the Left on their toes. With a new project from The David Horowitz Freedom Center , he is now in the business of keeping terrorists and radical Islam on their toes. He is providing a ready education online for you if you're ready to be intelletually open and willing to adopt a more aware worldview. If you haven't seen it yet, please allow me to make the introduction... Folks, meet The Terrorism Awareness Project . The video presentations and the facts laid on this site will be a real eye-opener for anyone who hasn't been paying attention since the late 1970s.

Syria Misses Sheehan

It's sad, isn't it? Cindy Sheehan left the Democratic party and ended her fight to end the war in Iraq. I, for one, will miss her. (No, not really; I'm being facetious.) I'm sure there are many more on the far Left in this country who will miss her but none more than the Syrians. WHAT? Did you just read what you thought you read?... yep. [...] Cindy Sheehan has long been considered an example of how a [single] person [can] lead a campaign to change the outlook and position of a strong regime, like the American one, and she has long been a beacon for all those who defend liberty and justice in the world. The news of her retirement [from public life] caused [us] to lose hope, [but] when I read her clearly reasoned letter of resignation [from the anti-war movement], I understood the extent of her difficulty. [...] Read the full dispatch from the Middle East Media Research Institute for more eye-opening opinions from Syria.

Priceless Penn & Teller

While searching for something completely different, I ran across an episode of Penn & Teller's "Bullshit!" that just seemed so refreshing, I felt compelled to share it with my friends who may not have seen it. I've embedded them in the order you should watch them. (The episode was broken into three parts.) Apologies ahead of time to my friends who are environmentalists (you know who you are) who may find the frankness in this video offensive. For the rest of you, ENJOY! ;-) > If you yearn for more of Penn & Teller's brand of frankness, check out this clip from another episode of "Bullshit!" where hippies sign a petition to ban water ! Geez. It's like shooting fish in a barrel, isn't it?!

The Test of Three

In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance, who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students...?" "Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three." "Test of Three?" "That's correct," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" "No," the man replied, "actually I just heard about it." "All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?...

Kentuckians don't care about illegal immigration?

What?! Who the heck says so? Well, folks, I hear through the grapevine that Kentucky's senior Senator has directly stated or implied as much to concerned callers who are hoping to dissuade Mitch McConnell from his efforts to revive Senate Bill 1348. This bill is disastrous to all Americans who care about the laws of this country. Any American who thinks it actually means something to become an American ought to be angry as hell about the push for this bill from the president and others in the GOP. If you haven't been following this battle closely, read NumbersUSA 's summary and analysis of the bill and the battle surrounding it -- it's very enlightening. NumbersUSA's website has all the info you need to put pressure on senators to kill this bill or end their wavering stance on it. It's a great resource for those of us who care about the future of our country. As Senator McConnell continues to help the President in an effort to ram a totally unsatisfactory ...
