Treason and Idiocy

While I fully support the efforts of U.S. Representative Pete King (R-NY) and Kentucky's own Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) to prosecute Americans for treason in a time of war, I think their hearts are in the right place but their heads are focusing on the wrong entity.

The New York Times (NYT) chose to publish what they'd discovered about the U.S. bank-monitoring program to track the financial dealings of those supporting terrorism. Yes, against government requests not to and against what most of us would deem common sense, they published it for the world to read. This is typical of our irresponsible media. No surprise to me.

However, ask yourself this: Would the Times have had a story to publish if someone (or some people) within "classfied" circles not told them about it? Who truly committed treason here? The source(s) of the story, of course. It's evident that The Times was in it just to increase their circulation and make themselves the news of the day. The source(s) who leaked classified government information should be prosecuted for treason, post haste!

There are some who agree with the Times and support their actions (gee, Richard Clarke, again?) by claiming that terrorists all ready knew about the program but Americans didn't and, by golly, Americans need to know! Um...helloooo? I would like to debunk that claim by saying that *I* knew. Of course I knew. The President had told all of us (Americans and the entire world) in speeches over and over again that the U.S. is targeting the source of funding for terrorists. Were other Americans not paying attention when he said that? Did anyone else find it surprising that we were doing exactly what the President said we'd be doing?

So then the question becomes: Do I need to know EXACTLY how we are doing it? Nope. Do I care if the government is watching fund transfers from our country to off-shore accounts? You bet I don't. This program was disabling some terrorist activities; you bet I don't care how they were doing it. I only care that it was successful! WAS is now the keyword thanks to the treasonist(s) who spilled the beans to the Times. How dare they provide government secrets that were helping us win this war (yes, folks, we are at war... remember?) against Islamo-fascists?

Shut up. Shut the fig up, fergawdssake! Is nothing sacred anymore? Is our safety and the squashing of hate-filled Islamo-fascists who would kill every last one of us, Liberal or Conservative, not worth keeping your freakin' mouths SHUT?!

As Michael Barone writes, The NYT is at war against America. Apparently, they are winning right now when something this heinous passes for "freedom of the press." So, I ask you this: Did the Times commit treason or are they simply guilty of sheer idiocy? Check the definitions:

trea·son ( P ) Pronunciation Key (trzn) n.
Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.
A betrayal of trust or confidence.

id·i·o·cy ( P ) Pronunciation Key (d--s) n. pl. id·i·o·cies
Extreme folly or stupidity.
A foolish or stupid utterance or deed.
Psychology. The state or condition of being an idiot; profound mental retardation.

It's very clear in my mind that the source(s) of the classified information committed treason. Plain and simple. It's also very clear that the NYT committed an act of idiocy aided and abetted by one or more acts of treason. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we've found that sleeper cell of Al Qaeda right here in our own country as theorized. Who would have thought it was made up of persons in classified government circles and a major media outlet?

If this country has any sense, it will round up the lot of them and send them off to Club Gitmo as POWs. I'm not holding my breath but I'd sure love to see it happen!

As the Blog Turns...

Gee. I have found myself fascinated by the soap opera unfolding in the comments section of this blog since last night. One little mention on a controversial Democrat's blog and it's High Noon on ConservaChick! (Yes, I'm laughing while I type this.) For those of you who have no idea what's happening in the ever-expanding comments section , join the club! Here's what I know about Mark Nickolas from bits and pieces I've read on his blog, and from a local news report: Nickolas likes to sneer at Republicans and call them snide little nicknames as he provides his "Unfiltered and Candid Look at Politics, Politicians and the Media in Kentucky;" he raised a ruckus within the Democrat party here in Kentucky by filing a suit against the chairman of the party , Jerry Lundergan; and he will be appearing on the same panel with yours truly on Thursday night. That's about it. You now have the benefit of my not-so-extensive knowledge on this subject. Nickolas poste...

Friday Night with Hugh and Friends

The consummate Conservative host, Hugh Hewitt, and yours truly! Shameless of me to post this, I know; however, I'm too jazzed to care. :-p What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night! After an hour or so wandering through some of the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, I then got to spend three hours with Hugh Hewitt and 599 other fans of his show. I absolutely MUST say that not only was Hugh wonderful and the live show very entertaining, but his fans are absolutely the nicest people! I've seen other radio talk show s done live and mingled with fans of those shows. Hugh Hewitt's fans are the nicest, most down to earth, friendly people I've ever met. It's quite a credit to Hugh that he draws such a fan base. If you haven't been to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum here in Louisville, it's a must-see. The museum shows an amazing artistry with the exhibits and places them in the context of the times in a very entertaining and educationa...

Is conscription the prescription?

US Representative, Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again. Rangel's prescription for fixing the ills we're feeling in Iraq is a draft . I have very mixed feelings about this. Conscription is conscription no matter what you choose to label it. Is that appropriate in a free country? On the flip side of this coin, I've often thought that compulsory national service would be a great idea for American kids right out of high school. It might have been a better start for me than learning to down beer at a Liberal Arts university! Two years in the service might give kids time to think about their future, learn higher levels of responsibility, and begin to take life more seriously. There are many countries who require some level of mandatory military service: Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, our neighbor Mexico, and our old buddy Germany, to name a few. Gee, now that I look at that partial list... aren't many of those countries Socialist or at battl...
