Illegitimate election? AAAAAAAAARGH!

I am sooooo very tired of hearing the elitist (read "Liberal") verdict that moving forward with elections in Iraq as planned will make the elections illegitimate. If political parties in Iraq boycott the election, how can Iraq possibly go forward with a legal election? *gasp!*

A BBC article quotes an Iraqi politician on this very thing:

"It is unthinkable that a large and important section of Iraqi society be left out of the political process," said Adnan Pachachi, a senior secular politician at the head of the drive to postpone elections, on Saturday."

Mr. Pachachi would do well to study US history. It is thinkable... heck, the not-so-United States of America in 1864 certainly managed to do it. Anyone, other than Foghorn Leghorn, want to claim that the re-election of President Lincoln during the Civil War was illegitimate?

I suggest that Mr. Pachachi and any other Iraqi party leaders who would like to better understand democracy actually participate in it before claiming what can and cannot be thinkable... Oh yeah, and the socialist European elitists might want to revisit that little bit of history as well. Now, enough already -- knock it off with that "illegitimate" nonsense.

The Sunni Iraqis as a group seem to have a political death wish. They seem utterly unable to comprehend the concept "Bottom rail on top now, Boss." Their stupid resistance has failed -- the US election results should have taught them that. They would do well to participate in the political process and try to serve as the balance between Shiites and Kurds. As it is, they are handing the Shiites a sword -- complete political control of the country, which they will use to take revenge for almost 80 years of uncontested political abuse at the hands of the Sunni governing class.

Seems to me that the Sunnis were supposed to be the peaceable Muslims. I dated a Kurd who had moved to the US shortly after Hussein took power. He had relatives die in the Halabjah(?) when Hussein gassed the village. He swore up and down that the Sunnis were the "good guys." It will be interesting to watch them cave when the elections come... I'll be watching this one VERY closely indeed.

Friday Night with Hugh and Friends

The consummate Conservative host, Hugh Hewitt, and yours truly! Shameless of me to post this, I know; however, I'm too jazzed to care. :-p What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night! After an hour or so wandering through some of the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, I then got to spend three hours with Hugh Hewitt and 599 other fans of his show. I absolutely MUST say that not only was Hugh wonderful and the live show very entertaining, but his fans are absolutely the nicest people! I've seen other radio talk show s done live and mingled with fans of those shows. Hugh Hewitt's fans are the nicest, most down to earth, friendly people I've ever met. It's quite a credit to Hugh that he draws such a fan base. If you haven't been to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum here in Louisville, it's a must-see. The museum shows an amazing artistry with the exhibits and places them in the context of the times in a very entertaining and educationa

As the Blog Turns...

Gee. I have found myself fascinated by the soap opera unfolding in the comments section of this blog since last night. One little mention on a controversial Democrat's blog and it's High Noon on ConservaChick! (Yes, I'm laughing while I type this.) For those of you who have no idea what's happening in the ever-expanding comments section , join the club! Here's what I know about Mark Nickolas from bits and pieces I've read on his blog, and from a local news report: Nickolas likes to sneer at Republicans and call them snide little nicknames as he provides his "Unfiltered and Candid Look at Politics, Politicians and the Media in Kentucky;" he raised a ruckus within the Democrat party here in Kentucky by filing a suit against the chairman of the party , Jerry Lundergan; and he will be appearing on the same panel with yours truly on Thursday night. That's about it. You now have the benefit of my not-so-extensive knowledge on this subject. Nickolas poste
