Latin Quip of the Day

In my hot little hands is a treasure trove of Latin quips. I intend to use it to amuse myself and hopefully a few of you in the process. So many of these are quite pertinent to Conservatives and our foils on the Left. Feel free to cast your own interpretations!

Sermo datur cunctis; animi sapientia paucis.

Not much significance, Genghis. I found the quip amusing in English. It sounds so dignified in Latin! Here's a hint... "opinions are like bellybuttons; everyone's got one." Except the Latin quip is a bit more sharply worded! ;-) I'll post the translation tonight.

By the way, I've done everything but hold my computer up to a mirror to try to figure out your little contribution. Are you yanking my leg with that? You just made it up, right? hehehe

Translation:

"Speech is given to many; intelligence to few."

Good one, Genghis! So, I have that to look forward to now... hehehe By the way, do you pronounce that "JHEN-JIS" or "GHEEN-GIS?" ;-)

I'm into the Romans lately (well, not lately, for a long time actually). What's your Latin quotation book ?

Well, El Jefe, it's a lovely little tome entitled "Latin Quips at your Fingertips" -- love the fact that it rhymes. Erudite and poetic all at once. ;-)

By the way Genghis, in case no one's ever mentioned this to you... the Greeks don't want no freaks. Anyone remember the less memorable period of The Eagles? hehehe
