I have been meaning to mention this for weeks now... I finally caved into my own curiosity and joined a website called "Louisville Mojo." I had been told by some Liberal friends that I would hate it because everyone is so screamingly anti-Conservative there. However, driven by an insatiable need to know, I joined (heck, it's free!) and created a very obviously Conservative profile. Can it get more obvious than "Conservachick?" ;)
What I've found is that we Conservatives are severely stereotyped among the Louisville Lib crowd. It was a bit shocking at first -- I got tons of hate mail and "drive-by" emails slamming the president (who I do disagree with on some issues) and Christianity (funny because I'm not a Christian). Interesting, no? I think slowly I'm making some headway toward helping the more curious and intellectual Liberals on this site understand the traditional version of Conservatism. It feels kind of good, actually!
I joined a "Mojo Live" group called "All Political Views Welcome" and it has, indeed, become a staple of my day now. The Liberals and the Conservatives in this group are not only curious about each other but they are willing to stick with a discussion until we reach at least a point of enlightenment simply by hearing each other out. It's amazing. It's as if both sides are saying the same things but arguing the point from totally different angles. I am grateful to have found this group of people. All of them are playing a part in restoring my faith in humanity regardless of partisanship.
A few of us actually met up at a pizza joint for meet each other in person a few weeks ago. It was a blast. I brought along the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots to settle any political disputes we had. It was a blast! Here are the pictures from that meet-up:
