Whose society is more fair to the working class? Ask a Liberal and he'll tell you that the socialized societies of Europe are more fair to the "working man;" ask a Conservative and they may hedge a bit on this thinking that Europe really does provide more for their working class at the expense of higher taxes. Guess what? Both would be wrong. For all the insistence that capitalism is unfair to the working class of society, the data actually tells a different story.
According to Karl Zinsmeister of The American Enterprise in his article "Europe Learns the Wrong Lessons:"
"... The irony is that for all their insistence on portraying the U.S. as a land of fired workers, poverty, and economic insecurity, it is now Europe where unemployment is twice as high and four times as deep, where immigrants and the young have far fewer openings, where the ladder of upward mobility has fallen to pieces. In terms of spending power, homeownership, educational opportunities, and so forth, even relatively low income Americans are now demonstrably better off than typical Europeans ..."
Do yourself a favor and purchase this month's edition of The American Enterprise just for the charts on page 18. They graphically illustrate the success story of this country in comparison to the socialized countries of Europe. Contrary to popular belief, Americans are more optimistic and financially better off than just about the whole of Europe. Take that, socialists! :P
