I must have missed this story when it originally came out back in October but I couldn't resist getting an opinion in on this anyway...
President Bush was accused of yet another "faux pas" by the alleged mainstream press. This time, the administration was accused of staging the interview that President Bush conducted with troops in Iraq. This was such a perversion of the truth by the press. You can see some of what the press wanted you to see of the satellite feed at Media Matters. (If anyone has access to the full feed that hasn't been mutiliated for political purposes by enemies of America, I'd sure appreciate a pointer to it.)
The simple truth is that a Pentagon official worked with the troops to help them become comfortable with the cameras. The troops were given an opportunity to rehearse their questions. Maybe that sounds odd to some folks; however, as one who has been in front of a TV camera, I can tell you that it is absolutely nerve-wracking! You lose contact with your own ability to BREATHE and you miss some of the important points/questions you wanted to pose.
Think about it, Lefties: Why would the warm-up session be on a satellite feed if the administration was staging this? Wouldn't it be locked down against press perversion? Obviously, there was nothing foul afoot... other than a noble attempt to help troops relax and practice their questions before they met with their Commander-in-Chief, one whom many of them admire.
I seem to remember a bit of staging on the Left that didn't take much hammering from the press... anyone remember the question that was staged by a Chattanooga Times reporter during one of Rumsfeld's sessions with the troops in Kuwait City in 2004? A reporter planted a well-crafted question with a soldier who later stood up and asked it. Wasn't that "staging?" Sheesh.
