I am ashamed to be a Republican today. I feel like I have been held down by Senator McConnell so that Senator Frist and his accomplices could easily slit my throat. How is it that Republicans can have a majority in both the House and the Senate with a Republican President in office and still manage to slit our own throats on an almost daily basis lately?! It's official. The GOP is dead. At least, it is dead to me.
In case you haven't heard yet, with the President out of the country today, Bill Frist and John Warner decided to play political games and pass an amendment to the defense policy bill that was meant to be a political one-up on the Democrats and their amendment requiring timetables for our war against Islamo-fascism. Frist, Warner, McConnell, and Santorum (the current Senate Republican leadership) did not even have the decency to wait until President Bush was back in the country to stab him in the back -- they've managed to do it from afar.
From the Washington Post article "Senate Rebukes Bush on Iraq Policy" today:
"... The Senate rejected a Democratic resolution that would have pressured the administration to outline a plan to draw down U.S. forces in Iraq, but, by a 79-19 vote, lawmakers approved a weaker Republican version that insists on regular reports to Congress detailing the military's progress toward the goal of bringing the troops home..."
After the Senate had voted down the Democrat resolution, Republicans turned around and formed a circular firing squad. Of the current 55 Republican senators, 41 of them voted yea on the Warner amendment, effectively casting their votes to denigrate our Armed Forces, cut our efforts in Iraq off at the knees, give our enemies the Vietnam defeatism they expect of us, and threaten the security and well-being of the America we Conservatives know and love.
Please note the following 41 (of 55) Republican senators who voted yea today on this shameful and harmful amendment:
Allard (R-CO)
Allen (R-VA)
Bennett (R-UT)
Bond (R-MO)
Brownback (R-KS)
Burns (R-MT)
Chafee (R-RI)
Cochran (R-MS)

Only 13 Republican senators remained true to their Conservative principles, kept their spines firmly in place, refused to play the Republican leadership's political game, and tried to keep Americans safe today. These senators voted No on the amendment:
Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Chambliss (R-GA)
Coburn (R-OK)
DeMint (R-SC)
Graham (R-SC)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Isakson (R-GA)
Kyl (R-AZ) (*I couldn't locate an email form for Kyl*)
McCain (R-AZ)
Sessions (R-AL)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)
As a Kentuckian, I am especially proud of Senator Bunning! He won a hard-fought race to retain his seat last year and I'm very happy to say that I worked hard at the grassroots level for him. Also, let me say that Senator McCain deserves our thanks today for taking the right stand. Read his statement; it's obvious that he fully understands the need to win this war against Islamo-fascism. His statement makes it clear that he sees the detrimental effects of the political game-playing that has been going on in the Senate with regard to Iraq.
As a Kentuckian, I am sickened by Senator McConnell's yea vote. He has obviously lost his senses. When Frist retires I certainly hope a true Conservative is put in charge because McConnell has obviously turned his back on his Conservative principles in favor of DC political games. I'm very upset with him.
The switchboard at Congress can be reached at 202-225-3121 -- simply ask to speak to your senator. The names of the senators in each list are linked to their email addresses if you prefer to write instead. If you're as furious as I am, please write or call. Senators need to hear from us on this.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN DC?! Republicans, get your freakin' house in order!!
The Warner Amendment will be the closing chapter of my faith in the Republican party. It is no longer the party of Reagan; it is the party of Chicken Little.

It's bad enough that they've stabbed the President in the back but they are cutting our throats as well. Let's congratulate those who stood by our President and our Conservative principles by voting No on the amendment; and, of course, a good lecture is in order for those senators who voted Yea.
Do yourself a favor and vent to the spineless Republicans who voted Yea on this today. Let them know EXACTLY how you feel about their hands on the knife that cut the throat of every Conservative American today. I AM LIVID.
Thank you, Hugh Hewitt, for making this the focus of your show tonight. You are a true Conservative hero!

[PS: As I was gathering the email links for each senator, I noticed something interesting... the website email links for the senators who voted yea on this amendment were absolutely craaaaaawling. No problem on the websites for the senators who voted no -- quite speedy. Curious, ain't it?]
