Memorial Day often gets confused with "first day of summer," "pool's open!" and "who wants cheese on their burger?" While there's no fault in having fun on this May holiday, many Americans forget that it is a day set aside for Americans to remember our fallen heroes, our valiant warriors who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
"Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic." -- General Logan - May 5, 1868
They may be gone but they will never be forgotten by those of us who remain grateful for their lives and the sacrifices they made. Not only do we owe our gratitude to the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who gave their lives for our freedom but gratitude for the sacrifice made by their families. Those families gave up loved ones so that you and I may breathe free. It is to those families today that I offer my respect and gratitude for the life of their loved ones -- warriors who loved not only their family and friends but this great country. Thank you and God bless you all.
