A Forgetful Fellow

Forgetfulness. It is the bane of human existence, isn't it? You remember your briefcase but forget where you laid your car keys. You remember to ask for donations but forget to pay your taxes at the end of the year. You remember to return the rental car but forget to pay the rental car company. You remember to put the fund-raiser on your calendar but forget your scheduled court appearance... Cursed memory!

Indicted blogger Mark Nickolas is just one forgetful fellow. As Vince Tweddell at the State-Journal found out today, all that forgetfulness just seems to be catching up with poor Mr. Nickolas!

... "Mark L. Nickolas, the blogger indicted last week by a Franklin County grand jury, has an active warrant for a 2006 felony charge in Fayette County, district court records there show.

Nickolas, who runs BluegrassReport.org, was charged in May 2006 with theft by failure to make a required disposition, said a clerk at Fayette District Court.
He also didn't appear for his June 28 court proceeding to answer to that charge, which would leave him eligible for arrest if he were stopped by police in that county, said the clerk." ...

With regard to how this active warrant in Fayette County may play to his current three-count indictment, the Commonwealth's Attorney was interviewed by Vince Tweddell and had this to say:

... "But those payments were made with a check Nickolas wrote from a non-profit corporate account, Cleveland said. He said covering personal obligation with a check from a non-profit agency 'just doesn't look right to me.'

'That may violate some federal or state statute,' Cleveland said. He also said Nickolas active warrant is something that "gives me a better idea what kind of person I'm dealing with." ...

For Nickolas's side of the story, keep an eye on the Pol Watchers blog as they seem to be covering that end quite well.

My opinion on all of the stories about Nickolas's "mistakes can be summed up with one well known phrase from the writings of Sir Walter Scott: Oh! What a tangled web we weave when first we practise to... uh... forget?...

if he paid employee taxes & filed annual returns for his "Samhill Thoroughbred Racing Stables" between 4/2004 and 11/2005???

Or Nickolas' other failed company which was dissolved because he "forgot" to file Annual Report.
Bluegrass Political Strategies LLC from 10/2003 through 11/2005.

Yikes! There was yet another failed... uh, I mean, forgotten endeavor?! Geez. What a mess!

Yes, he is forgetful. In fact, that explains why he writes so many lies on his blog. He "forgets" to check facts out BEFORE he slanders people??? huh?

Early on during the first episode I kinda-sorta wanted to take up for him, even though I hadn't liked his tactics because I know that everyone of us has screwed up. But the magnitude of his screwups, combined with the vitriol of his criticisms of his targets makes him an unsympathetic protagonist. Now, he is stewing in his own juice, and he is down to about three half-baked defenders. His blog has disintegrated. I honestly take no delight in it. He has so much talent, but there is a lesson here for all of us, and it is this. We all have feet of clay, but we should remember that well as we criticise those who dare to wander into the public arena. To trash and trash and trash some more, is sooner or later going to invite a response, and unless the one who is dishing out the initial volley in equipped in all areas to withstand return fire, he had best hold his own, or at least contain it to issues and not personal attacks.

I can't figure out the deal over at H-L. They are refusing to either investigate via the IRS OR they have investigated and are refusing to report what they found because it might hurt their pal's reputation????

I don't get it! It's kind of sickening to think that newspaper would be so ... unethical in their reporting. Really kind of creepy!

H-L has lost so much credibility with their one-sided, vague attempt at reporting.

I actually went a step beyond what the H-L is doing and picked up the phone & called the IRS.

I don't understand why the H-L is just leaving unanswered questions out there on THEIR blog unanswered.

Stamper said over the weekend that come Monday morning he would find out if the Felony Warrant was valid ... and yet, he hasn't reported anything. Makes me think Stamper does NOT want anyone to know that the felony warrant is valid.

All the tax statements on his pol watchers could be cleared up and reported if Stamper would just call the IRS and ask them about the allegations that have been posted on Pol Watchers.

Which makes me think, he HAS called the IRS and knows the allegations are correct, or he would have reported otherwise to help his criminal friend out.

So much for H-L credibility. Just like Nickolas, both have lost credibility.

John Stamper shows zero journalistic integrity.

Journalists are supposed to have a keen smell for news. They are supposed to be suspicious all the time. That's what it means to be a journalist.

The editorial board at H-L inadvertantly explained today "why" they don't ask their friend Mark Nickolas hard questions. The Editorial board HATES Fletcher so much that they LOVE anyone and everyone that hates Fletcher too.

Their editorial on J. Deckard's getting the job as exec. dir. KBA makes it sound like Deckard isn't qualified. Well, he is. In fact, the only lawyers that have as much venum for Deckard as H-L is Mark Nickolas' lawyers - imagine that.

The head of the KBA and every attorney that knows Deckard knows that he is very, very ethical and qualified.

HL hates Fletcher so much they are willing to ruin or tarnish a good man's life's work ethics because he happens to have been Council for the Governor and the Chief Justice.

HL & Nickolas think alike. They can't just report the failures of Fletcher, they have to tarnish good people who are just earning an honest living. SHAMEFUL

Friday Night with Hugh and Friends

The consummate Conservative host, Hugh Hewitt, and yours truly! Shameless of me to post this, I know; however, I'm too jazzed to care. :-p What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night! After an hour or so wandering through some of the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, I then got to spend three hours with Hugh Hewitt and 599 other fans of his show. I absolutely MUST say that not only was Hugh wonderful and the live show very entertaining, but his fans are absolutely the nicest people! I've seen other radio talk show s done live and mingled with fans of those shows. Hugh Hewitt's fans are the nicest, most down to earth, friendly people I've ever met. It's quite a credit to Hugh that he draws such a fan base. If you haven't been to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum here in Louisville, it's a must-see. The museum shows an amazing artistry with the exhibits and places them in the context of the times in a very entertaining and educationa

As the Blog Turns...

Gee. I have found myself fascinated by the soap opera unfolding in the comments section of this blog since last night. One little mention on a controversial Democrat's blog and it's High Noon on ConservaChick! (Yes, I'm laughing while I type this.) For those of you who have no idea what's happening in the ever-expanding comments section , join the club! Here's what I know about Mark Nickolas from bits and pieces I've read on his blog, and from a local news report: Nickolas likes to sneer at Republicans and call them snide little nicknames as he provides his "Unfiltered and Candid Look at Politics, Politicians and the Media in Kentucky;" he raised a ruckus within the Democrat party here in Kentucky by filing a suit against the chairman of the party , Jerry Lundergan; and he will be appearing on the same panel with yours truly on Thursday night. That's about it. You now have the benefit of my not-so-extensive knowledge on this subject. Nickolas poste
