Who the freak is this clown?? William M. Arkin can kiss my lily white America-loving arse. I know it's the Washington Post and this tripe is to be expected; however, this goes WELL beyond the pale. How dare he?!
WHAT?! Read the blog post. Defenders of our sovereignty and of our freedoms deserve SO much better than the shite this guy spewed on the WaPo blog. They deserve our respect -- which Arkin's blog post clearly shows they are NOT getting from certain segments of America even though he claims they are -- and our admiration for the honorable way in which they are fighting this war.
I don't blame our troops a bit for pointing out that somehow they are supposed to believe that some Americans support THEM but do not support the cause for which they are putting their lives on the line. Interestingly enough, this a-hole Arkin chose to overlook the fact that the troops he criticizes for expressing their opinions support the American people on a 24x7 basis. They lay their lives on the line for our freedoms -- how much more support does Arkin expect? Geez!
Whether you agree or disagree with our presence in Iraq, you have to admit that this guy's thesis is all freaked up. He's basically saying that our troops ought to just shut up. Are they not entitled to the same First Amendment rights that all Americans enjoy? Hey, last I heard, the First Amendment applies to ALL Americans, not just wrong-headed journalists!
If you're steaming like I am, you'll want to skin this guy alive. Okay, that was a little severe. Sorry. At a minimum, you'll want to let him know that his ill-considered and bizarre opinion is not the opinion of we America-loving citizens who truly appreciate the sacrifices made daily by these honorable troops and their families.
... "These soldiers should be grateful that the American public, which by all polls overwhelmingly disapproves of the Iraq war and the President's handling of it, do still offer their support to them, and their respect." ...
