Secure Borders Now

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) has created an online petition to make it easy for those of us who do NOT support amnesty of any kind and want secure borders to have our voices heard in this debate. The petition is meant to encourage Senators to say NO to the sham immigration reform legislation. The wording is clear and concise:
"Members of the United State Senate,

I am one of the millions of Americans who believes our first priority as a nation should be to secure our borders by enforcing existing laws. Amnesty is not the solution.

I urge you to vote against the immigration reform bill currently being considered in the Senate and to oppose any future effort that undermines our national security or grants amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants."
Add your name to the petition at SecureBordersNow.com. At this point, over 57,000 Americans have signed the petition. Take a look at the map of where the signatures are coming from. You might notice a few flags in Kentucky where Mitch McConnell thinks we don't care about amnesty...

I'm not 100% sure about the timing or the location of the presentation of this petition to the Senate. I believe it is supposed to be presented by Senator Inhofe during the debate on the floor or during committee. My hope is that it will happen on the floor where C-SPAN can pick it up for television. Go get 'em, Senator Inhofe!!

Is conscription the prescription?

US Representative, Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again. Rangel's prescription for fixing the ills we're feeling in Iraq is a draft . I have very mixed feelings about this. Conscription is conscription no matter what you choose to label it. Is that appropriate in a free country? On the flip side of this coin, I've often thought that compulsory national service would be a great idea for American kids right out of high school. It might have been a better start for me than learning to down beer at a Liberal Arts university! Two years in the service might give kids time to think about their future, learn higher levels of responsibility, and begin to take life more seriously. There are many countries who require some level of mandatory military service: Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, our neighbor Mexico, and our old buddy Germany, to name a few.
