Stop Sanctuary Cities (HR 3093)

You have a chance to help pass an amendment Tuesday that would effectively end the "sanctuary city" movement. Tuesday morning (10/16/07), please call 202-224-3121 and ask your Senators to vote FOR Senator Vitter's anti-sanctuary amendment to the H.R. 3093 appropriations bill. This is known as the "CJS (Commerce, Justice and Science) spending bill."

The amendment by Sen. Vitter (R-LA) would deny a popular federal police grant to cities that adopt "sanctuary" policies. These are policies that prohibit police from reporting illegal aliens to the feds.

Generally, sanctuary policies instruct city employees not to notify the federal government of the presence of illegal aliens living in their communities. The policies also end the distinction between legal and illegal immigration -- so illegal aliens often benefit from city services too.

Sanctuary policies have been against federal law since the 1996 federal immigration law required local governments to cooperate with Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But many cities have refused to do so, adopting so-called "sanctuary policies." Unfortunately, the Clinton and Bush Justice Departments have refused to bring suit against these cities.

The Vitter amendment would seek to eliminate sanctuary policies in local municipalities, whereby law enforcement officials are barred from asking suspects about their immigration status or reporting them to Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The amendment would ensure that existing law is enforced uniformly across the country by withholding COPS federal funding for cities that choose to violate section 642(a) of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA).

If the amendment passes, it is unlikely that any city would give up the federal funding in order to continue to provide sanctuary to illegal aliens. Funding remains available but only to those cities who adhere to existing laws. This is a win-win for anyone who values the rule of law in this country.

Please call tomorrow morning and help end the insanity of "sanctuary cities" in this country!

If our government and other represetatives don't want to file suit, we should. There are almost 1 million assaults by illegals every year, if they won't protect us, we must step up and do it. Afterall, it is the law and they too should abide by them.

Our taxes are used to support them and it should stop NOW.

The United States of America is a nation of laws. We expect our citizens to abide by them. And it is absolutely true that ANYBODY regardless of race, creed, color, or religion is WELCOME to join us in pursuit of the American dream provided they enter this country LEGALLY.

People who break the law to jump in front of those who follow our laws to become Americans legally do not deserve to be rewarded for their behavior.

What part of "Illegal Alien" do you not understand, Anonymous?!

As the Blog Turns...

Gee. I have found myself fascinated by the soap opera unfolding in the comments section of this blog since last night. One little mention on a controversial Democrat's blog and it's High Noon on ConservaChick! (Yes, I'm laughing while I type this.) For those of you who have no idea what's happening in the ever-expanding comments section , join the club! Here's what I know about Mark Nickolas from bits and pieces I've read on his blog, and from a local news report: Nickolas likes to sneer at Republicans and call them snide little nicknames as he provides his "Unfiltered and Candid Look at Politics, Politicians and the Media in Kentucky;" he raised a ruckus within the Democrat party here in Kentucky by filing a suit against the chairman of the party , Jerry Lundergan; and he will be appearing on the same panel with yours truly on Thursday night. That's about it. You now have the benefit of my not-so-extensive knowledge on this subject. Nickolas poste...

Is conscription the prescription?

US Representative, Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again. Rangel's prescription for fixing the ills we're feeling in Iraq is a draft . I have very mixed feelings about this. Conscription is conscription no matter what you choose to label it. Is that appropriate in a free country? On the flip side of this coin, I've often thought that compulsory national service would be a great idea for American kids right out of high school. It might have been a better start for me than learning to down beer at a Liberal Arts university! Two years in the service might give kids time to think about their future, learn higher levels of responsibility, and begin to take life more seriously. There are many countries who require some level of mandatory military service: Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, our neighbor Mexico, and our old buddy Germany, to name a few. Gee, now that I look at that partial list... aren't many of those countries Socialist or at battl...
