This is an idea whose time is long overdue! Senator Jim DeMint has quickly become our Conservative watchdog in the Senate and I couldn't be happier about his current drive to reform the earmark process in Congress. Frankly, I'd like to see the practice ended entirely but I'd be willing to settle for a reform that makes the process more transparent.
Regardless of your party affiliation, I think we all agree that the way earmarks are handled in Congress has become a disgrace. Conservatives will tell you that Congress has no business collecting taxes that are used for state projects anyway; Liberals might tell you that they would prefer a more transparent way to fund these types of projects. The current process is cloaked in darkness and, if I'm not mistaken, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had previously vowed to bring it into the light of day. That hasn't happened yet. It's time. It's long past time!
"To all members of Congress:
It's time to close the Congressional Favor Factory. That starts with eliminating wasteful earmarks that cost American taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars every year and undermine their faith in Congress.
I support Senator Jim DeMint's fight for commonsense earmark reform."
Help Senator DeMint reform this disgraceful process by signing this online petition.
If you're undecided, please take the time to watch his video and do a little research. It's worth your time and it's definitely worth your signature! My signature is there already!
