Foreign Policy Magazine, one of my favorite reads, is collecting votes (from non-subscribers as well as subscribers) for the Top Public Intellectual. Voters may choose from 100 listed intellectuals and/or write in their favorites.
The list of 100 intellectuals varies from environmentalists and religious leaders -- Yeah, I know... they're pretty much the same thing, aren't they? -- to political scientists and economists. They are quite an interesting and varied bunch.
I voted for four of my favorites from their list. It was my sincere pleasure to make my fifth vote a write-in for Noble Peace Prize nominee, Rush Limbaugh. It goes unnoticed all too often how Rush has shaped modern political debate and brought Conservative ideology back to life in all its original glory. It's time he was noted for his intellect as well as his wit.
All too often the term "intellectual" is applied only to Liberals. I encourage all of my Conservative friends to take some time out of your day to vote in Foreign Policy's poll. Let's remind them that there are some outstanding Conservative intellectuals.
