Breaking News...

A recent commenter to this blog is writing his own blog as part of a school assignment. Apparently, he has been asked to follow two political blogs -- one Liberal and one Conservative. It seems my little ConservaChick blog will be the Conservative one.

Ladies and Gentleman, meet Daniel Clugston via his blog "What makes MY head hurt!!!"

If you have a moment, Daniel, would you mind posting a little about yourself (how old you are, where you live, and your political leanings for example) as a comment to this post? What exactly is your assignment for Government class?

Daniel, thanks for telling us more about you. You are in what is often referred to by some as "flyover country." There are a lot of Liberals who think that the only areas of this country that count are on the coast (LA, NY, DC, etc.).

It sure seems to me, based on your comments and on the fact that you've been assigned to follow politics via blogs that those Liberals ought to be paying a lot more attention to states like Kansas!

Do you follow the votes of your US Senators and Representatives from Kansas? It seems to me that your Senators -- Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts -- are pretty good Conservatives!

I hope you'll feel free to add your comments to any of my posts here on ConservaChick. I'm very interested in what younger people are thinking about our government. You are truly the future of this nation. Be sure to get out and exercise your first vote this year! I was thrilled when I got to vote for the first time!

What are you supposed to learn from following one Conservative and one Liberal blog? Is there something you have to turn in at the end of this assignment for a grade? I sure hope my blogging about you and your project earns you some extra credit too!

Is conscription the prescription?

US Representative, Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again. Rangel's prescription for fixing the ills we're feeling in Iraq is a draft . I have very mixed feelings about this. Conscription is conscription no matter what you choose to label it. Is that appropriate in a free country? On the flip side of this coin, I've often thought that compulsory national service would be a great idea for American kids right out of high school. It might have been a better start for me than learning to down beer at a Liberal Arts university! Two years in the service might give kids time to think about their future, learn higher levels of responsibility, and begin to take life more seriously. There are many countries who require some level of mandatory military service: Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, our neighbor Mexico, and our old buddy Germany, to name a few.
