Restore Funding for the Border Fence

If you haven't been paying close attention to DC lately, you might have missed this bit of Congressional trickery:

Without explanation, Congress has stripped away $3 billion in desperately needed funds to build the Border Fence that it approved last year and to provide for other border security.

That's right—without telling the public, Congress is pulling the plug on the U.S.-Mexico Border Fence that it voted for with such enthusiasm last year (just before they asked voters to re-elect them).

critical—Congress will finalize this funding question before Christmas!

Grassfire.org has done a great job of laying out the events leading up to this bit of treachery by Congress in a special report, "Government Border Fence Trickery." Read it to find out how these types of "scams" are conducted.

Take action today by signing this petition to let Congress know that you care about illegal immigration and that you're paying attention! My name's on it and I've forwarded it to friends and family. If citizens don't monitor and act each time legislation is passed and then quietly "unpassed," legislative trickery like this goes unnoticed by the masses. It's up to each of us to stay on top of our public servants. After all, "We" are the boss, aren't we?

Yippee! For once, I'm happy with Congress for not following through with a ludicrous $2 million/mile border fence.

You call it "ludicrous," I call it a damned shame that Congress continues to fail on some pieces of what is a badly needed addition to our attempts to secure our borders and our national security.

I'm glad to note what a loving individual you are, Tulpen. Like you, I welcome people of ALL countries to the USA -- it's a great place to live! -- provided they come to this country LEGALLY. Our country, our laws. Respect them.

Friday Night with Hugh and Friends

The consummate Conservative host, Hugh Hewitt, and yours truly! Shameless of me to post this, I know; however, I'm too jazzed to care. :-p What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night! After an hour or so wandering through some of the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, I then got to spend three hours with Hugh Hewitt and 599 other fans of his show. I absolutely MUST say that not only was Hugh wonderful and the live show very entertaining, but his fans are absolutely the nicest people! I've seen other radio talk show s done live and mingled with fans of those shows. Hugh Hewitt's fans are the nicest, most down to earth, friendly people I've ever met. It's quite a credit to Hugh that he draws such a fan base. If you haven't been to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum here in Louisville, it's a must-see. Is conscription the prescription?

US Representative, Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is at it again. Rangel's prescription for fixing the ills we're feeling in Iraq is a draft . I have very mixed feelings about this. Conscription is conscription no matter what you choose to label it. Is that appropriate in a free country? On the flip side of this coin, I've often thought that compulsory national service would be a great idea for American kids right out of high school. It might have been a better start for me than learning to down beer at a Liberal Arts university! Two years in the service might give kids time to think about their future, learn higher levels of responsibility, and begin to take life more seriously. There are many countries who require some level of mandatory military service: Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, our neighbor Mexico, and our old buddy Germany, to name a few.
