The Decline and Fall of American Conservatism

As a person who's been on the "beat" and talking to the people from 2004 onward, I have often wondered when Conservative diverged from Republican. Then, on a random search for other things, I ran across this most intense analysis of that very thing. The author has nailed it down with just the title, " The Decline and Fall of American Conservatism ." "The Founding Fathers created a free society grounded on the moral sovereignty of the individual. They recognized that the only legitimate function of government is to protect each individual’s right to act on his own judgment—so long as he does not violate the rights of others. Accordingly, the Founders established a government limited to the protection of individual rights—that is: limited to making and enforcing objective (i.e., rights-respecting) laws, to resolving civil disputes, to protecting private property, and to enforcing contracts." If you are a Liberal who truly wants to understand the differen...

Celebrate Human Achievement Hour - Saturday (28-MAR) 20:30 to 21:30

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) will recognize “Human Achievement Hour” between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on March 28, 2009. The new one-hour holiday coincides with Earth Hour, a period of time during which governments, individuals, and corporations have agreed to dim or shut off lights. Thank you, CEI, for clarity that is clever and entertaining! (Enjoy your darkness, luddites.)

Ignorance and Indignation

You can feel quite certain the America populace has been properly dumbed-down. In fact, I do believe some of us can't even spell the word "dumb" correctly anymore. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... I skipped class a few times. So where is my evidence that dumbing-down has finally created a nation of dolts? It's all over the headlines, my friends. You can see it for yourselves. As a matter of fact, you can't freakin' miss it if you turn on a TV or a radio these days. The indignation expressed by our president and members of Congress over the AIG bonuses was at first amusing. It was brilliant comic theatre as the very people who crafted the language in the bail-out bill that ALLOWED those bonuses to go forward emphatically expressed their ignorance of it and then their outrage about it. It reminded me of that great comedic line from Casablanca , when Captain Renault is prodded by the Nazis to raid Rick's Cafe American. As he raids the place, he loudly...

Brown Shirt Obamanation

Courtesy of a Conservative cousin, " Not a Sheep ," across the pond in Great Britain, the link on the title of this post presents a harrowing little video comparison that should give you nightmares tonight. ...and just when I thought I might be overreacting a tad, I brought up a Google search page to do some research and what do I find?... So now President Obama is soliciting questions on the economy via Google for the Whitehouse.gov website. Only, these aren't anonymous questions. You have to register an account to post a question. The site even keeps track of how many you "contribute." So this is how it begins, eh? Threads of the Big Guy start weaving themselves onto our television screens and into our webpages until the cloth is all his making. We begin to think of any other cloth as "foreign" or "unAmerican" and the next thing you know we're helping him sew right over Old Glory to add the hammer and sickle. We had press conferences f...

We need more Coburns in Congress!

It's been a while since I browsed through YouTube for interesting video. Boy howdy, did I ever find some of interest! If we had more Tom Coburns in Congress, we'd have a United States that makes sense according to the wisdom of our Founding Fathers. Our Constitution is NOT casual reading or toilet paper... it is the document that defines our government and (used to) set limits on its power. Well done, Senator Coburn (R-OK)! Thank you for your articulate and common sense speech about enumerated powers and Congress's total disregard (over history) for the US Constitution.

We're InDebtEd

InDebtEd is a campaign/website created and run by MTV On Campus and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation . They create videos and literature to help educate young Americans of college-age on the national debt and what it will mean to them in the future. They will need all the help they can get to prepare for the big load they'll be carrying thanks to idiots in my generation on Capitol Hill who couldn't control their greed nor their egos. I used to laugh about MTV being a snippet-driven hip-hop venture but it appears that they're putting theat format to good use. I'll laugh no longer. They've certainly redeemed themselves in my eyes. Keep up the good work, InDebtEd! I hope that the next generation is listening. They'll need all the help they can get, either with finances or Chinese language lessons if our debts are called in.

Congratulations to the "Banking Queen," Barney Frank!

"For his ample and under-appreciated contributions to the nation’s current economic meltdown and his near-genius ability to engage in the two-faced blame game, CAGW names House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank March Porker of the Month." March 2009 Porker of the Month , Barney Frank (D-Mass), also has a near-genius ability to wreak havoc on taxpayers while all eyes are firmly on him. That's some sleight of hand he has, wouldn't you say? Well done, as usual, CAGW !

How big is it?...

Regardless of your political party or ideological leanings, the notion of the federal government spending $2 trillion, adding to the national debt of nearly $11 trillion already, should make you stop and consider the staggering size of our national tab. If the irony of using debt-based spending to solve a problem caused by debt-based spending has escaped you (I doubt it has), perhaps these fun facts will put things into perspective: * If you spent $1 every second, you'd have to keep spending for 412,000 years to get to $13 trillion. That means you'd have to start shortly after the time human beings first starting using stone tools and fire to get to $13 trillion today. * $13 trillion in one dollar bills weighs 28 million pounds. That's as much as 87 blue whales or 462 Statues of Liberty. * If you laid 13 trillion one-dollar bills end-to-end they'd reach from the earth to the sun and back...five times over. That's 946 million miles of greenbacks. The amou...

Southern Humor

A man from Portland, Oregon decided to write a book about churches in the United States. He started by flying to San Francisco and worked his way east. He began his project by taking photographs and making notes at a very large church in San Francisco. In that church, he saw a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with the sign next to it which read, "Calls: $10,000 a minute." He sought out the pastor and asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that the golden phone was, in fact, a direct line to heaven and, if the man paid the price, he could talk directly to God. The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. He visited churches in Seattle, Denver, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and around the United States. At each and every one he found more phones with the same sign. At each and every one he also received the same answer from each pastor. When he arrived in Kentucky, he stopped to visit a large church in La Grange. He had become a...

God enters through the wounds.

As a blogger, I find myself confronted on an almost hourly basis with public relations email messages from every organization on the planet. It seems that everyone has a cause to promote and the PR staff to do it. At times, I find myself very fortunate in this regard when I am contacted by organizations that are helping humanity with very profound issues in very meaningful, dare I say, spiritual ways. One such organization is Survivor Corps . I grew up the daughter of an Army veteran who suffered post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of two years of direct in-country involvement in the Vietnam war. At one point in life, I was the wife of a Vietnam veteran. I know what it's like to live with the bad (often violent) dreams, with the temper, and with the "otherness" that veterans bring home courtesy of war experiences that create PTSD. Whether one is the child of, the spouse of, or the veteran him/herself, there is nothing quite so emotionally confusing and life ...

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a day filled with gratitude and with the love of family and friends on Thanksgiving day. We had about 12 people with us and someone at the table gave thanks for everyone with him at the table that day. That's the spirit of Thanksgiving summed up nicely for me! In addition to boundless gratitude for Mom's cancer staying in remission, I gave thanks this year for my wonderful husband, a great bunch of new in-laws, and some terrific stepkids. I would like to have given thanks for a successful election but *sigh,* the way I figure it, true Conservatism would have lost regardless of which candidate won. Unfortunately, that's just the way it was with this year's election. All we Conservatives have for entertainment over the next four years is the interesting exercise of seeing how long it takes Obama voters who've gloated about his win to realize that Socialism/Obamaism only works for those appointed to oversee the redistribution of everyone else's ...

*gulp*

...down goes the Soma. Mmmm. Double-plus good for you Obama voters, isn't it? I'm eager to see who is appointed to the "Ministry of Peace."

Swallowing the Marxist Pill

Open wide and say "Ahhhh!" You'll need to stretch your throat over the next week or so. Just in case, you might want to practice swallowing that huge political pill called "change" that Barack Obama says we all need. It won't seem too bad at first but, when the sugar coating is gone, it's gonna be a HUGE pill to swallow. Most likely, it'll get stuck halfway down and be quite uncomfortable for a while. I'm pretty sure it's going to hurt. A lot. The pity of it all will be that we, Americans all, will choke on it knowing that we either (a) brought it on our fellow Americans with our ill-informed vote, or (b) quietly informed ourselves thinking that others must be doing the same, or (c) just stood by and watched it all unfold while burying our savings and our firearms somewhere in the hope that we will be able to ride it out. You, me, our neighbors, our co-workers, our friends -- we will have brought it on ourselves. Whether you vote for Obama or...

"Senator Government"

Well, what can you say about McCain's performance in the last of the debates Wednesday night? *sigh* Nothing dramatic, that's for sure. One thing you can say is that he tried. He was more aggressive, more insistent, and not quite as much a pushover as he was in the past two debates. Yep, he tried this time. What I find amusing though is that McCain's best line of the night was a Freudian slip! We Senator McCain addressed Obama as "Senator Government" before quickly correcting himself, it was a laugh-out-loud moment in the ConservaCouple's living room. Well done, Senator Slip... errr I mean, McCain.

McCain had better be McAble tonight

It's showtime in about 30 minutes. Senator McCain, if you or anyone on your staff has been asleep at the wheel recently, you will have missed all of the Conservative voices SHOUTING for you to TAKE OFF THE FREAKIN' GLOVES in the debate tonight. Seriously. If you want to feel the collective force of every Conservative in this nation jumping to their feet and applauding as one, you will choose your moment in tonight's debate carefully and then unleash a rhetorical but massive slap to the facade that is Obama. Not only will you leave him stuttering but you'll wake up the American "undecideds" in the process. We are counting on you tonight. We all know you're a good guy who prefers to avoid conflict but the problem is that people don't understand who Obama really is. They don't see you as much different from him and every other politician on the Hill. Most importantly, Senator, they don't understand that Obama and his Democrat cronies were behind t...
