Good Luck Sgt. Damon!

I would like to wish Sergeant Peter Damon, Iraq war veteran, all the best in court! It is my sincere hope that you mop that courtroom floor with the sweat, blood, and ill-gotten gold of that piece of scum, Michael Moore. May the force be with you! "The work creates a substantially fictionalized and falsified implication as a wounded serviceman who was left behind when Plaintiff was not left behind but supported, financially and emotionally, by the active assistance of the President, the United States and his family, friends, acquaintances and community," Damon says in his lawsuit. Attila the Hun and Me

At the risk of appearing to excuse any wrong-doing that may have taken place in Haditha, it bears pointing out that war is a risky venture at best. A civilized country places it's civilized citizens in harm's way with nothing but their training, weapons, and protective gear, and asks them to execute a WAR in a civil manner. Things are bound to go wrong, badly wrong, a small percentage of the time. On my best day, in day-to-day personal/political conflicts, there are probably times when, if I were Attila the Hun , I would stop the diplomacy and just shred the very fiber of the mortal being in front of me out of sheer frustration. Okay... maybe that's just me... The point is that we ask our troops to do very dangerous things: they put their lives at risk on a 24-7 basis in warzones; they watch their compatriots die in battle; and, then we (in the safety of our homes) are outraged when their emotions overwhelm their training and they (allegedly) go on a rampage? I don't f

Video for the Text-averse!

Very few of us have the time or the inclination to wade through a lot of reading to catch up on important grassroots issues. One such grassroots issue is tax reform. The name of the issue alone is enough to send many folks screaming for the hills; Fortunately, thanks to fellow Fair Tax supporter and blogger extraordinaire, Terry, I've been clued into a video that is a must-see. In less than 18 minutes, this video makes the Fair Tax proposal easy to understand and even easier to get excited about! I hope you'll visit The Right Track blog as well. It's full of great information on The Fair Tax movement as well as humor and analysis of many, many other issues of interest. Thanks a bunch, Terry!

Thank You

Memorial Day often gets confused with "first day of summer," "pool's open!" and "who wants cheese on their burger?" While there's no fault in having fun on this May holiday, many Americans forget that it is a day set aside for Americans to remember our fallen heroes , our valiant warriors who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. "Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic." -- General Logan - May 5, 1868 They may be gone but they will never be forgotten by those of us who remain grateful for their lives and the sacrifices they made. Not only do we owe our gratitude to the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who gave their lives for our freedom but gratitude for the sacrifice made by their families. Those families gave up loved ones so that you and I may breathe free. It is to those famil

Anti-American Propaganda Feeds Islamofascists

If there is any doubt that the propaganda generated by American Bush-haters is being used by Islamofascist internet sites to further their own agenda, doubt no more . This very same organization hosts a forum called e-Jihad.net whose readers include the "believer" responsible for this post to the site: The Quran calls on to fight the unbelievers, which are atheists and polytheists, such like trinitarian Christians, Hindus, etc., in summary: liars. Even Jesus said that he did not come to bring peace to the world, but a sword. Therefore I am not surprised that the terrorists have chosen the USA as a target for their actions, because the USA have turned the meaning of the words „In God we trust“ upside down, they sold huge amounts of weaponry to the Middle East and with their interference in Middle East affairs they represent a threat to the world peace. Americans providing aid and comfort to the enemy in any form whatsoever are traitors. Internet flash files, cartoons, rant

FairTax Rally

As some of you are probably aware, I support the Fair Tax tax reform proposal. A rally was held in Atlanta, Georgia that drew thousands and was covered by a local television station. The only inaccuracy I heard in the report was that the Fair Tax is a sales tax on all goods. That's not true: the Fair Tax is a sales tax on all new goods; once the tax has been paid on a new item, it is no longer taxable. Take a look at the news report for yourself -- I couldn't link you directly to the video but scroll down and you'll find it 26th or 27th in the list. Scroll patiently. ;-) FairTax Bill HR 25 / S25 Fair Tax bills are pending in Congress now. Rallies like these help publicize the interest in abolishing the income tax and moving forward on reforming our system the RIGHT way. The Fair Tax group is well-organized and very active. The Fair Tax website has resources you can use to make it easy to voice your support to Congress and become active in your local community. If you ar

Grab a tissue...

The king of satire, Scott Ott, has written the most touching tribute I think I've ever read to those who are left behind when the ultimate price is paid. "Sixty Two Years and Two Hard Words" is not satire but poignant empathy and gratitude in prose. Thank you so much, Scott, for using your gift to bring others to understanding of "sacrifice." Thank you to the men and women who are still sacrificing for the freedom of this country.

Victors, not Victims

Our friend Russ Vaughn has recommended a thoughtful piece about our military men and women that reminds us to honor, not pity, them . The media and anti-American types have been on a campaign over the past few years to portray our military men and women as mindless fodder in the war against Islamofascism, mindless fodder who return home as victims of the American "war machine." For the vast majority of our troops, this is just completely untrue. The best part of this piece is a Marine Lt. Col's explanation for why anti-military/anti-American throwbacks to the Vietnam years insist on hollowly mouthing "we support the troops" while continuing to portray them as victims and misfits: The military type as misfit "is a stereotype that a lot of people from the Vietnam era have held on to." Then, as now, "they saw men and women who did more than they did . . . and they'd compensate by casting those folks in an inferior status." Memorial Day weeke

Spread of Freedom?

Could it be that Ronald Reagan's "shining city on a hill" has helped spread democracy and a passion for independence throughout our world? Well, according to the Progressive Policy Institute 's "Trade Fact of the Week," the world now has 193 independent countries . Sure seems like the spread of freedom, doesn't it? In contrast, "each year between 1860 and 1910, about two countries on average vanished from the maps... By the turn of the 20th century there were about 60 independent countries left, which is probably an all-time low." Believe it or not, this was brought to my attention by the PPI's "Trade Fact of the Week!" Could it be that Liberals want what we Conservatives want? Well, almost... "PPI believes we must manage globalization to reflect our interests and values, through a combination of open trade, international rules to protect the environment and promote labor standards, and efforts to provide Americans with the t

A proper "Thank You?"

Okay, maybe I'm more sensitive to this than most because I come from a military family but veterans deserve to know that their most personal data is protected! What kind of "thank you" are we sending to vets when we allow some idiot government employee to put the personal data of 26 MILLION vets at risk? The kind of sensitive personal data that is recorded on every person serving his/her country is extensive. After all, we ask them to become "government property" when they sign up. Don't we owe them the protection that such extensive personal data deserves? There are regulations forbidding the transport of such data outside of government offices. This employee should be sacked and sacked IMMEDIATELY! An official apology should be issued by our government to every veteran impacted by the loss of his/her personal data.

Truest Example of Globalization?

QUESTION: What is the truest example of Globalization? ANSWER: The death of Princess Diana Why? Well... An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is posted by an American, using Bill Gates's technology, and you're probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexican illegals... Now that, my friends, is Globalization!

Revolutionary new fuel?!

Disclaimer: I'm a geek but I'm no scientist. My knowledge of chemistry is limited to one class in high school; therefore, I'm totally unqualified to vouch for the feasibility or validity of what I'm about to link you to... If this is for real, it will absolutely change the world economy and the geopolitical standing of countries who have depended on oil for the wealth of their economies. Read more detail about it here . Anyone have a clue about this stuff? I'm very interested but have exhausted Google trying to find more about this inventor and/or the company. I hear there is an IPO in the works...

Well, shut my mouth and fill it with chitlins, y'all!

"What are they going to say?" Nagin said. "That I didn't have enough buses? That I didn't order the evacuation early enough? That's old news. We've been through that. Now the question is, `Who's out there helping people? What are you doing now?'" Apparently what they're doing now is re-electing "old news." Congratulations, New Orleans, you have now officially proven that your city learned nothing about the importance of effective local government.

From Our Friend Russ Vaughn

Send this Old Warhorse to the Barn Marines like to say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Though not a Marine myself, this old ex-paratrooper is a staunch supporter of the Corps and believes John Murtha has shown himself to be the exception to that rule. His latest attack on our troops specifically targets the Corps and belies his adherence to the Corps' creed, "Semper Fidelis," always faithful. Murtha has become the darling of the liberals; like John Kerry he's a Vietnam veteran who uses his military credentials to attack our troops and their mission. As a fellow Vietnam vet, I've been loathe to comment on Murtha because, unlike Kerry, this guy was the genuine article, an enlisted man who rose to the rank of full colonel while serving in extended combat operations. For that, we owe him. However, we can only accept so much disparagement of our troops before we say, "Enough!" and retire this particular Marine once and for all. That time has co

The Da Vinci Code: A humble review by yours truly

I just got home from seeing The Da Vinci Code tonight. Opening night of the movie seemed like a real fun time to see such a "controversial" movie. And yet, opening night was not full of enthusiastic fans of the novel but idiots who wandered into the theater expecting to find 4 seats together 10 minutes before the movie was due to start. Something tells me that those folks weren't big Dan Brown fans but were simply drawn to the movie by the hype and the protests it inspired in some Christian communities. Speaking of the controversy, as expected, there were some Christians on the lawn near Tinseltown Theaters here in Louisville who were carrying protest signs and a very large crucifix. I wish I had had my camera handy. I couldn't quite read their signs but the intent was obvious. What I found interesting and very clever was an advertisement shown during the lull between sitting down in the theater and the start of the trailers -- a local Christian church bought an ad

The definition of insanity

As Einstein most famously noted, the definition of insanity is " doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results ." This so easily describes the Bush-hating Left in this country that "insanity" has become synonymous with "Liberal." Evidence: NSA "wire-tapping" brouhaha. Deja vu, anyone? Hasn't this been done ad nauseum by the Left ever since Bush was elected in 2000? Everything done by this administration is "illegal." *yawn* Why, sure it is... (wink) I don't want to agitate crazy people; you never know what they might do next. Our friend, Daveed Gartenstein-Ross has written a piece for National Review Online that clarifies and puts to rest yet another Liberal tilt at the Bush windmill. Educate yourself; it's easy since Daveed has done all the homework! ;-)

?Como se dice "illegal?"

As most of you know by now, I have some strong opinions on almost every political topic. Immigration is no exception. I've been a bit reticent about writing on this topic because it has become ubiquitous. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a headline on the topic these days. My forefathers emigrated from Ireland and Scotland to the United States well before the mid-nineteenth century. I can well imagine the difficulty they had when they landed on American soil. Anyone who thinks that the English language is the same for all English-speakers has never tried to hold a conversation with someone from Boston or New York or with someone from Dublin, Ireland or Glasgow, Scotland, not to mention a simple conversation with someone from the southern states! We do not all speak the same English. So, it's not inconceivable that there were many trials and much confusion waiting for legal immigrants to the US who WANTED to assimilate, wanted to succeed, and took pride in their n

Holy FICTION, Batman!

At the risk of offending some of my Christian friends, I feel compelled to express my own opinion about the Christian hubbub over the US debut of the movie " The Da Vinci Code " tomorrow. Fundamentalists, Evangelicals, and Catholics seem to be quite disturbed about this fun little work of fiction. A Vatican official has even called for a boycott of the movie because the story is full of "offenses, slander, historical and theological errors concerning Jesus, the gospel and the church." Pardon me for thinking but it seems everyone is missing the point here. It seems to me that someone ought to send these reactionaries to a dictionary. The whole matter would have been over before it started: " fic·tion (fkshn) n. 1. (a) An imaginative creation or a pretense that does not represent actuality but has been invented. (b) The act of inventing such a creation or pretense. 2. A lie. 3. (a) A literary work whose content is produced by the imagination and is not necessa

Google NEWS?!

If you've ever searched the term " Hezbollah " or "Hizbollah" on Google News, you may have found a source called "al -Manar" listed on the results page. Did you read it the result from al-Manar? If so, did you realize that it was the propaganda wing of the "Party of God?" Here's a tidbit for you in case you missed the propaganda: " Lebanese FM: Hezbollah is an honest and courageous liberation movement sacrifices for Lebanon's independence and sovereignty " WHAT?! A terrorist organization is an "honest and courages liberation movement?" Say what?! Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that Israel is evil and that the only way to curb their evil is by terrorism. Silly me. What was *I* thinking?! Look, for Google to portray al-Manar as a "news" source is about the equivalent of any of us saying that CBS is an objective news source. Neither is true. CBS is the propaganda wing of the Liberal movement in this country and

Never Forget

For those of you who have wondered about seeing the new film, " United 93 ," ponder no more. Go see it. It is powerful; it is poignant; it is a reminder of what we face this very day and many days more until this evil is wiped from the planet. I went to see this film last week with a few friends. We were all very interested in how the story would be told. None of us expected to have the oxygen sucked from the theater as the drama unfolded. Everyone in that theater held their breath. It was clear that we were all transfixed. You could hear a pin drop in that theater. This is a highly emotional and powerful film. There were tears, cries of "my God!" and silence. One fellow in our group shouted, "Way to go, flight 93!" at the end of the film. He, like the rest of us, were proud of what those people did for their sake and the sake of others. Even though we all knew how the story would end, none of us were prepared for the force with which the end was presented

Who are They?

They trekked thousands of miles in searing heat... They crossed the border risking life and limb... They get paid peanuts... They do jobs others refuse to do... Some people back in their own country treat them with little respect... They live crammed together in substandard conditions... They rarely see their families... They have to learn a foreign language and culture... Who are they?... Find out now! (Hats off to The People's Cube for this one!)

Understanding your Socialist Friends

If you, like me, have a few friends who are great people but have been politically misled, you might find this little map handy for understanding them better!

The REAL Cause of Our Oil Problems

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country. Well, there's a very simple answer. Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low. The reason for this is purely geographical: Our OIL is located in Alaska, California, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, the Gulf of Mexico and Florida... but our DIPSTICKS are located in Washington D.C. -- Thanks to my Mojo buddy JR for this one!

Subliminal Bush

I know there are far more important things to blog about today and in the weeks I've missed writing but I'm in a mood for fun! If you didn't see the televised White House Correspondents Dinner a few nights ago, you missed a great comedy routine . The thing to understand about this bit is that the impersonator is acting as the "subliminal Bush" who says what he thinks. Actually, that's not a far cry from the real President Bush now is it? ;-) Our Commander-in-Chief has a great sense of humor! (I suppose he needs it though with all the Liberal potshots taken at him on an hourly basis, huh?)

Jorge Washintonez

I love the satire of " The People's Cube " and their take on the National Anthem being re-written in Spanish is priceless. "All we need is your Juan Hanchocas here, here, and here, and, oh, sorry, right here, too, and then we're done." Have a laugh and enjoy!

Random Musing of the Day

While outside taking a well-deserved break today, I happened to take notice of a small caterpillar who seemed on a mission. The caterpillar approached the brick side of the building and raised up to consider the climb. All his little legs kicked into motion and, much to my surprise, he began to climb the brick. What he saw up there that enticed him, I'll never know. He seemed determined to make the climb though. As his legs hit some of the bricks that had maintained a more shiny surface, he slipped and the upper part of him flipped backward a bit. He stopped, adjusted his approach and tried again. Slipped backward again. Even with all those little legs working for him, the brick surfaces sometimes worked against him. Each time, he would adjust his approach and climb a little to the left or right of the surface. Sometimes, he simply chose to follow the path of the mortar and zig-zag a little. This went on for some time when he eventually lost his grip on the bricks completely. The c

Remember me?

It seems like ages since I've blogged! Thanks to Motorola and some patience on hold with technical support, I'm finally reliably back online again. These past few weeks have been chock full of technical challenges at work and at home that have kept me away. Well, that and a social life! ;-) In case you don't remember me, I'm ConservaChick -- thwarter of technical gremlins, slayer of malfunctioning software, and liberator of ancient curse words. Heck, let's call it like it is... voodoo goddess at large! Nice to be back!
