Back to Reality

Wow, sorry to have been missing in action for so long! I enjoyed my Thanksgiving break a little too much. I think I'm having trouble getting back into the swing of things again. Reality. What a concept. I tried something new this holiday -- I unplugged almost completely from the news. The only TV programs I watched were football games and the only thing I read was a spy/adventure novel. I am still surprised that I was able to pull that off. Amazing, for a news junkie like me! So, while I'm getting caught up on the news again, here's an idea: Christmas and Hannukah are almost here again -- a great time to show the brave men and women of our armed forces (and those of our coalition partners, as well) that you support them. Winds of Change has done an extremely thorough job of collecting information on ways to support the troops . Please take some time and check this out. These guys will be missing their home and families more than usual over the holiday season. Don'

Giving Thanks

I'm sure that the pilgrims would be quite surprised that their little dinner with the natives is now honored every year by Americans who have never worn a hat with a big buckle on it or who get their information not from a bible but from curious mechanical devices that glow in the dark. While controversies and animosities can be unleashed around this time of the year where "politically correct" is concerned, I still find this one of my favorite holidays of the year. I haven't had to buy a turkey -- or " tofurky ," if you happen to be a vegetarian -- in the past four years. Being the 41-year-old divorcee with no kids means I get invited elsewhere and rarely have to do more than bring a nice bottle of wine and help clear the dishes after the meal. Good deal, eh? Every year on Thanksgiving I try to find some quiet time to contemplate all the things in my life for which I am thankful. Since I'm now, more or less, a member of the big community of blogg

Wow! Eyes Wide Open and Still Researching...

Following up on a recent post to my blog " Don't we owe them something? " I was combing the internet tonight, browsing information on mandatory birth control and other related topics when I ran across a paper published on the EWTN website (Global Catholic Network). This paper written by Mike Perry (still tracking him down on the web), is a fascinating read for those of us who have never delved into the roots and history of Planned Parenthood. He draws interesting connections between birth control, eugenics, Nazi Germany, the Civil War, race building, and what we know today as Planned Parenthood. Basically, it is the culmination of a movement meant to control/reduce the population of the poor, working class immigrant communities in the United States. Call me naive but I had never really thought long enough about the historical context to draw these connections myself. Here's a brief excerpt: These organizations arose out of the fears of America's affluent,

November: the best month ever!

Can November 2004 possibly get ANY better? This is one month that will be marked in my memory as one of the happiest, healthiest, sane months ever. President Bush is re-elected in one of the most important Presidential elections in a lifetime; the terrorist Arafat finally dies leaving Palestinians with a more hopeful future; and Dan Rather announces his retirement! Wooohoooo! Party on the patio, y'all!! The best retrospective I've read on Dan Rather's career is this piece by Slate's Bryan Curtis. Nice work, Bryan. Thanks to you, I'll remember Rather's madness fondly. Will I miss him? Naaaaaaaaaah. Now, if CBS has any brains left in its news operation, they'll find Rather's replacement in the blogosphere where great minds know how to break a story "rather" than FAKE a story!

Don't we owe them something?

This may seem a little off topic for my blog but I'm waxing philosophical this evening and felt like posing the question running through my mind to a wider audience. Let me explain. I do volunteer work every Monday night at a local place that cares for kids who are in dire straits. I don't want to breach any confidentiality so I'll leave the description at that. The particular area in which I volunteer is for kids under 5 years of age. I leave there every Monday night with either a smile on my face or an ache in my heart. Sometimes both but either of which is a perfectly understandable result, I'm sure. The ache in my heart sometimes comes from the fact that there is almost NEVER just one child from an unfit home -- there are almost always at least two and, most often, there are three or more. I guess my "issue" tonight could be best put in the words of Keanu Reeves's character in the movie Parenthood: "You have to have a license to drive and yo

Friday Night with Hugh and Friends

The consummate Conservative host, Hugh Hewitt, and yours truly! Shameless of me to post this, I know; however, I'm too jazzed to care. :-p What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night! After an hour or so wandering through some of the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, I then got to spend three hours with Hugh Hewitt and 599 other fans of his show. I absolutely MUST say that not only was Hugh wonderful and the live show very entertaining, but his fans are absolutely the nicest people! I've seen other radio talk show s done live and mingled with fans of those shows. Hugh Hewitt's fans are the nicest, most down to earth, friendly people I've ever met. It's quite a credit to Hugh that he draws such a fan base. If you haven't been to the Frazier Historical Arms Museum here in Louisville, it's a must-see. The museum shows an amazing artistry with the exhibits and places them in the context of the times in a very entertaining and educationa

From the girl in the second row...

(L to R) "CD" Dodd Harris of Ipse Dixit blog fame; Hugh Hewitt, the consummate Conservative host; and, of course, yours truly! So much to write about but so little time at the moment -- off to a family event tonight, a Protest Warrior gig tomorrow and after that, I'll fill y'all in on the news. The brief, and less entertaining, version is that a great time was had by all. Museum was awesome; Hugh is a blast to meet and watch work; and I got to meet some fellow Louisville bloggers in person last night at the show. Hugh has the best fans. So much fun! Hugh, you rocked the 'ville last night and we were so pleased to get to meet you in person!! By the way, tell Emmet that the "girl in the 2nd row" says she's willing to help with the next list of Kentucky movies. Geez.

Kiss*kiss!

I know I said I'd be MIA today but couldn't resist posting this tidbit -- thank you, President Bush, for showing no hesitation in making it clear that it's okay to recognize the difference between a man and a woman! There are many reasons I admire this man and one of the reasons is showcased in this Washington Post article . Women have been saddled for decades with the nonsense propagated by the femi-Nazis. Somehow we had to pretend to be men to gain respect in the workplace. Personally, I wore the silly little man-like suits with the scarf/string ties on the blouse all through the early 80s thinking "why do I have to pretend to be a man?" No matter how masculine I tried to be at work, I found that, hey, I still looked like a woman. And, lo and behold, I found that I achieved more success in my career when I simply showed up for work as MYSELF, a WOMAN, a unique INDIVIDUAL! God bless President Bush for showing the sensitivity and courage to recognize that a

Congrats, Arlen

I suppose congratulations are in order for Senator Specter who narrowly escaped losing his appointment as head of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Apparently, he will be the Chairman after much ado. I have been holding back on any commentary about his possible appointment because I was in agreement with Byron York -- it would have been a bad way to start off the new session. I felt that the seats turned over to Republicans in Congress would have been persuasion enough for Specter and, quite frankly, there's no better Chairman for that committee than a pro-choice Republican. Who better to add credibility to a party that's being bashed for having such a strong religious contingent? I feel like Specter knows that he's been put on notice. Plus, now that Daschle's gone (hallelujah!), it shouldn't be such a bloody mess to get these nominees through. Senator Specter, the world is watching...

Hi-de-ho Hugh!

Hugh Hewitt who will be in Louisville tomorrow evening to do his show live from the Frazier Historical Arms Museum . I've got tickets with some friends and am very excited about it. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the tickets for this have sold out. And so, it is highly likely that I'll be MIA for the duration tomorrow. The next post I make to this blog will be recounting, breathlessly I'm sure, the thrill of seeing him do that voodoo that he do LIVE! Stay tuned...

Lie-bury for Clinton?

I couldn't resist the use of the "lie-bury" in place of library. As a matter of fact, other than shrouding the impeachment materials with a "persecution" label, the Clinton library has indeed owned up to his impeachment. I was shocked to find, while visiting his Presidential Center website , that a search on the term "monica lewinsky" turned up no less than 100 links! Evidently, the Clinton legacy will do what Clinton himself couldn't seem to do up front -- admit that he DID indeed "have sexual relations with that woman." What didn't seem to be made clear in the materials is that he was impeached on perjury charges... I hope future generations will get a textbook recounting of the Clinton presidency that includes that fact. Aw, who am I kidding right?

Libs showing their true "color"

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this outrageous? Apparently, the racist treatment of slaves in the Old South as showcased in "Gone with the Wind" is appropriate cartoon treatment for Dr. Condoleeza Rice -- a woman who has achieved so very much in her life and done so much for this country. I mean, every one of these cartoons -- all of them are linked under the heading "Libs hit new low" at the top of Rush's website today -- are offensive to anyone with any sense! When the Libs don't like something, they're the first to display their true colors of bigotry. As if the cartoons weren't enough, the UK Mirror makes a point of shaming our President (a white man) for turning to his trusted advisor (evidently considered to be an "uppity" black woman by Liberals) for advice! I suppose the old Dixiecrat mentality lives on in the modern Democrat party, eh? Where are the outraged defenders of the black community? Rev. Jackson? Julian Bon

Let Allah Sort Them Out

As I hear, read, and see more about the incident with the Marine shooting a wounded enemy in the mosque in Fallujah, I become more and more furious at the "mainstream" media. What has happened to the idea that you gather all of the facts to properly frame a story before simply spewing video and opinions?! I did a little time in Journalism class in college and it seems to me that the textbook was thrown out ages ago. Iraqis condemned the act as "cowardice" and "something forbidden in Islam." Oh, so I suppose that taking and beheading hostages IS an act of bravery and allowed in Islam? How dare the Iraqis condemn a Marine who is doing the work that they should have done themselves years and years ago? Where are the brave Iraqis who helped clear Fallujah of the insidious terrorist/insurgent presence and what do they have to say about this incident? You would think, from the level of hysterical reporting, that this Marine shot an innocent civilian who

Can I help you pack?...

I just ran across a card that was crafted specifically by the Louisville chapter of Protest Warrior for our most recent showdown with the Leftists here in Louisville. If you read my ramblings often, I'm sure you know I'm an enthusiastic Warrior but what you may not know is that I have a horrible memory. So, before I forget, I thought I'd share the text of this little homemade card that we handed out to the Lefties at our last counter-protest: "Does four more years of economic prosperity, lower taxes, and freedom scare you? Are you feeling lost and hopeless because a phony war hero and a greedy trial lawyer lost the most important election in history? Well, now there is hope! Join your fellow Leftists in a mass migration to Canada. Your taxes will double but, hey, you'll finally have free healthcare. Good Riddance to Bad Trash

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly be more excited about the future of the civilized people of this world, Arafat's death on Nov. 11th just raised the excitement meter! Someone pinch me, please, I think I may be dreaming... I'm sure it surprised no one of any intellect that the French took him in while he was deathly ill and then sent his corpse home in a style more suiting a statesman than a terrorist. After all, I do believe the French do their part on a regular basis to ensure they make money off of all terrorist "heads of state" -- no discrimination there. I'm sure it surprised no one of any intellect that Arafat is being eulogized as a world leader who struggled for peace for his people. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize , I'm sure Arafat knew that his Liberal friends worldwide would ensure that his legacy will be misrepresented for years to come as one of "the struggle for peace." I pray that this terrorist does NOT rest in peace. He d

Euphoric "Leave of Absence" Over for Now!

Sorry to have been away so long. I have to say that I was afloat on that cloud of euphoria much longer than I thought I'd be! It's time to come back down to earth now, I suppose. I had a blast gloating at a "peace vigil" shortly after the big election night festivities, as did my fellow Protest Warriors. I always thought I was a humble winner. And, of course, humility has its place, I suppose. However, not THIS time, my friends! After listening to almost a full year of nonsense from the Left, I was ready to gloat over the fact that most Americans have more common sense in their pinky fingers than the idiot, old hippy Leftists! My favorite new sign for our counter-protest that evening was "W stands for Whoop-Ass!" Even though the C-J chose to use a picture that misrepresented OUR numbers, I was still pleased that the Curious-Urinal decided to talk to an innocent bystander. She did an awesome job of communicating much of what we were about that evening. Wa

W stands for WHOOP ASS!

Congratulations, Americans, we have re-elected President George W. Bush and made history! I missed my electoral college prediction of 296 for W, but even that doesn't bring me down. I'll be floating on the cloud of euphoria from this victory for at least another week! Check out the county breakdown of votes for W across the fruited plain. It's a real eye-opener! Election night was a blast -- watching Tom Daschle (D-SD) lose his race, watching the GOP pretty much sweep our races across the country. Other than watching the release of the hostages in Iran after President Reagan was innaugurated in 1981, this Election evening made me the proudest I've ever been to be a Conservative. Congratulations to Anne Northup, Jim Bunning, and all the other local Republicans who won their races. Congratulations to all the Republicans nationwide who won their races as well! What an amazing sweep!!! Not only have Conservatives made history in this election, we have made our future

Down to the wire... cross your fingers!

I've been very involved in local politics since I helped elect Governor Fletcher last year. He is Kentucky's first Republican Governor in 36 years! It was an awesome experience and got me hooked on working as a volunteer on political campaigns whenever I can. This year I've been volunteering lots of time and effort to the Bush/Cheney and Northup campaigns. Last Saturday, I spent 8 hours driving a van full of 12 "walkers" to neighborhoods in our area as part of the GOP's Get Out the Vote campaign. Those precinct walkers had their work cut out for them as the houses in our precincts were fairly spread out. However, many of them were shocked to be thanked for their effort by the voters they connected with during the day. One retired veteran thanked us for OUR service to the country! We were all in awe. We had numerous voters report that their Bush/Cheney '04 signs had been stolen. The best we could offer them were some small campaign stickers instead. Ma

Bin Laden -- Kerry's campaign manager?

Oh how wonderful it must be to be a Leftist and hear your very own words broadcast worldwide from the mouth of your idol, Bin Laden! Happy days are here again! I'm sure there must have been viewing parties for Leftists worldwide who were happy to see their man alive and well on network TV. If you didn't catch the sarcasm there then please leave my blog immediately. I don't like lunkheaded Liberal Leftists. When I read the transcript , it became oh so apparent that idiots like John F'ing Kerry and the DNC have simply supported Bin Laden via their talking points. Talk about providing aid and comfort to the enemy! I wonder if Bin Laden will be asked to join the UN as his own nation if Kerry is elected... Now, in case it wasn't clear to anyone after reading the transcript of the Bin Laden tape, those of us in the red states who will be re-electing President Bush in this year's Presidential election are taking gambling with our security; however, those lunkhea

It's been a looooong campaign!

I haven't posted in quite a while. Fortunately though, my online absence is for a good cause -- I've been busy with GOP grassroots campaign work here in Louisville. I have Get Out the Vote calls and a rally for Senator Jim Bunning to do this evening. I am working as an election official on Tuesday in a precinct that is heavily Democrat. It would sure do my heart good to see that area vote their consciences and not their party. I suppose that remains to be seen and I'm sure I'm hoping for too much. This has been the longest campaign in recent memory and I will be so happy to see it over. I'm ready to celebrate as soon as the polls close and our President is re-elected! While doing a ProtestWarrior counter-protest on Sunday, I was called a facist and a warmonger... when will these Liberal lunkheads ever get it?! No one likes war, and the only "fascists" are the Liberals who are suppressing the free speech of the Right! Gee, "mainstream" med

God bless and keep them safe from harm

I don't know about you, but I sure haven't seen pictures like this in the "mainstream" Liberal press...
